Express Times To Invade Lehigh County

This is a good thing.

Everyone, including me, likes to complain about the local newspaper. So when The Morning Call decided to put up a pay wall (and you can get around it several ways), I questioned whether it was worth it. In the only place where it has monopoly, Allentown, it seems to be an autopilot. Its coverage in Bethlehem and Easton, where there is competition from The Express Times and Patch, is much better.

It's coverage in Allentown might be getting better, too. The Express Times is invading Lehigh County with two reporters. One will be assigned specifically to Allentown, while the other will cover outlying communities.

The paper is taking applications now.

It's starting out small, and will be web-based for starters. But it will not be the Allentown Times, which stuck me as Morning Call Lite. Instead, the in-your-face style of Editor Joe Owens is going West.

Great news as the Morning Call sucks, especially on Monday. I'd be interested in knowing how to get around the limit on line. Contact me privately if you feel you can't publish it. Thanks, Bernie.

Joe Owens hasn't covered the real news in Northampton county. Why would they do a better job in Lehigh County.

Maybe John Stoffa is going to move to Lehigh County and he needs his campaign coordiantor to set up shop over there.

Their Bushkill Twp. motor route customers haven't received an on-time delivery in almost a month, when they get a paper at all. Cancelled after 29 years. Who cares what they cover if they can't deliver their product?

morning call and its coverage of this seasons lehigh county elections have been an embarassment... they cover JUST ENOUGH so they can check the box that it was covered...

Morning Call is an accident looking for a place to happen. They have closed there site if you don't pay, yet the advertisers that do pay, don't get their bang for the buck, because we can't see their ads. Advertisers should pull all their ads because the MCall isn't doing there job by showing the ads, because we can't access their aticles. Way to go MCall.

Till and Owens need to cover their own backyard before they go to Allentown. I guess the chamber will be able to write up press releases for them so it won't be to hard to cover.

Tried to switch over to the ET, but was told they would need to mail it to me in Walnutport. No thanks, stuck with the MCall...

Are you saying Owens and Stoffa have something in common. No wonder the Excess Times covers for old Stoffa.

Responding to the Bushkill Township delivery comment -- I live in Bushkill Township and get my paper on time (before 6:15 a.m.) every day.
