At their November 30 hearing, Bethlehem Township zoners postponed consideration of a proposed eight-bedroom adult mental health facility, to be located in Lehigh Valley Industrial Park at the intersection of Brodhead Road and Fritch Drive. NHS Human Services, a non-profit health group seeking a special exception, asked for the delay as a result of an unavailable witness.
The facility is intended to provide transitional housing for persons re-entering the community after being hospitalized for mental illness. It is located just a stone's throw from a controversial, 300-bed, treatment and work release center, proposed by Abe Atiyeh. The Township's ZHB rejected Atiyeh's application, but was reversed on appeal last year by Senior Judge Michael Frnciosa. The jurist later invalidated "onerous and burdensome" conditions imposed by zoners.
Ironically, Atiyeh is one of the Objectors to this facility.
This case will resume at the Bethlehem Township Municipal Building, located at 4225 Easton Avenue, on January 25, 2012, at 6:30 PM.

Abe, what's good for the goose isn't good for the gander?
Ya gotta love Atiyeh, the true Rajah of Rezoning.
He's got moxie, I'll say that. Let me add that he's nobody's fool. I listened to him give a very thorough and well-considered analysis of Bethlehem's proposed zoning ordinance at City Council.
What was his stated objection? Just curious.
The altruistic and philanthropic developer. How sweet.
Bill, don't know as the matter was continued.
