As much as i respect Alans intentions, personal responsibility and actions overall trumps the many government handouts.Too few benefit from the huge government outlay.Social workers by far benefit with jobs more than the needy.

PA government needs to be reformed. We talk about state government issues, but don't focus enough on the local governments that are equally ineffective.

he says we are on the "brink of insolvency"-really?

Bernie -

He's right about Allentown being on the "brink of insolvency", but has been nothing but a cheerleader as Pawlowski has put us there.

If Jennings is really looking for why the problem persists, he can start by looking in the mirror.

He is right about the number of municipalities, the redundancy etc.

and yes, it WON'T last and to anon 3:13 you are one of the reasons it will burn out, instant blame to the person who only relates facts, you would probably be the first in line to bitch if the anexed your little town and consolidated its goverence into a larger body

Alan,

Many of Pennsylvania’s urban areas are burning/bankrupt due to their own inability to manage their affairs effectively. Allentown is prime example. Who outside of Pawlowski’s sphere of influence would argue that the Queen City has had sound management these last ten years? Sadly Alan you have been part of the team that has taken Allentown to the brink and beyond. Don’t try to pass on the blame to other entities; it won’t wash with those who have been paying attention.
By the way, I remember fondly when you were part of the solution. Remember Rental Inspections? The voter approved program that could have lifted the downtown from its distressed status is nothing more than a cash cow for Ed’s general fund. Your total silence on this has not gone unnoticed.

There is no such thing as Utopia --- or a free lunch, for that matter.

When will Americans lose all the phony "it's for the children, have you no heart?" propaganda and bash this through their thick skull once and for all?

The Entitlements ARE unsustainable.

Even the freakin' Spanish have figured it out --- check out the election results from Europe ...
