Community Policing Deal Struck in Lehigh County

Last April, Lehigh County Commissioners were reluctant to go along with Executive Don Cunningham's $1 million, three year, community policing program. The program was funded, but only with $1.

When Lehigh County's budget for next year is revealed, you'll see that the $1 million program has been reinstated.

Cunningham now has something he did not have before - five votes.

Don Cunningham suggested it so the Commissioners didn't want it. They should listen and take notice, he is a bright young man. Now it is back so this time please vote for it. The County needs to step up to the plate. Thanks Don.

All Don needed was to change one R vote. He managed to do so.

Wonder who turned. Thats good. Put politics aside. Methinks, once the Rs loose unity, the others will join in, but perhaps Dean Browning, whose concern I think is genuine.

This is a good thing. I am a republican and this is what small government is about, providing for the local needs of the people at government levels other then federal. I an not a fan of the federal COPS plan as I believe it is not the job of the feds to provide local police. With how many small municipalities make up Lehigh County the county is in a good position to help. We are more productive as a region when we work together.

a vicotry for Lehigh County. After reading this week's article on residents' in a lehigh county borough and their concern about rising crime, I was hopeful that somebody would recognize that this will help all communities in the county.

Any hopes that Northampton County might launch a similar initiative?

No. Northampton County does not have the money and has far greater capitol needs. but it's still doing its part for A-town. That city supplies the prison more inmates than any other city save Easton.

Northampton County helped by giving Allentown and Lehigh County over half of the Gaming Revenue host fee. Every year we will hand it over.
Thank you Mr. Stoffa for signing the dumbest thing a Northampton County representative could sign.
