Am I reading correctly that the officer did not even enter the complete breathalizer reading? I thought I read earlier that it registered, but not high enough to warrant a charge or even further testing?

Why not just post a PDF? Why the goofy plugin?

Who names their kid Dino?

lets see.....if anyone else did this, would they receive the same treatment???......mmmmmmm...interesting that he blows a .06 2x on the most unreliable of tests..this stinks to high heaven on all counts....the BPD should be proud (recent events include destroying tapes and now this nonsense...)

Bernie
Is it true an officer did not
enter the proper breathalizer reading?

The officer would only enter the alcohol level if the person was above the legal limit...which at the time was .10, I believe.

Blowing .06 on a breathalyzer is not against the law. Taking a person for a blood test after giving the breathalyzer and having it come back below the level would be unconstitutional(illegal search and seizure, no probable cause).

I am not even sure Cantelmi had to go to police HQ for the second test. Once the test came back below limit, he was off the hook for a DUI.

Also, do you really think the four or five police officers would risk their careers to cover something like this up? It is pretty minor.

To post 6:18

Perhaps you will explain why Bernie was initially told there were no reports for 2007 when he first stopped by the station.

Wait till the Fall. When the women get involved this campaign will explode.

Cut the guy a break. Have you ever tried to concentrate on driving while some chick is giving you head. Put yourself in his place. The dude was probably near his happy ending when all Hell broke loose.

Bernie
Maybe tomorrow or the next day try to find out about proper police proceedings re: alcohol readings.

I did mention proper procedure as per my conversation with a police officer. First you do field sobriety. if that is failed, you have the suspect blow a breathalyzer only bc a high reading will make a hospital trip necessary. otherwise, it is off to the DUI center.

Bernie,
The report is now unavailable. Did you take it offline for some reason?

Just read your posted police report. I recognized one of the several officers named in the report, and I have nothing but respect for him. I still find it hard to believe the officers would knowingly be involved in any impropriety.

Was any "influence" pulled afterwards to try to keep quiet on the political end? I do not know. If there was, then the next question would be was it to help the outcome for Cantelmi, or did he get the consequences anyone would get, but an attempt to keep it quiet so it wouldn't be manipulated out of context for political reasons???

We still have not seen this in the Express/Call/WFMZ. I can be cynical at times, but I'm beginning to think this gained traction the moment they made the mistake of giving you the run around when you showed up asking questions.

My point about it not being in the local MSM is that it makes me believe that at the end of the day, there may not be as big of story as it looked when they gave you the run around.

"We still have not seen this in the Express/Call/WFMZ."

That's the whole point of blogs. If you want to rely on the MSM as your exclusive source of news, you should not be here. This blog supplements what appears there. I don't tell them what to write and they don't tell me what to write.

I suspect you will see it in the MSM once Beth City Council complains about it or if Callahan stonewalls my right-to-know request.

"there may not be as big of story as it looked"

Yeah, keep this under wraps for three years. Nothing to see here. I've been told by one cop that he was recently approached by a reporter who started her conversation with him by saying, "We don't feel this is much of a story."

In the meantime, I am getting more and more questions, Bethlehem used to have state police investigate accidents involving one of their own. When did that stop? Why? Have other accidents by city employees in city-owned vehicles been kept from the public? I am beginning to hear stories about that, too.

"The report is now unavailable"

It should be available and I will keep it out there.

Bernie
What happened to that police report you posted yesterday? Did you take it down?

Anonymous said...

It looks like someone erased the pages. Only one page now appears and there is that little "error" icon up on the left. Granted we're not the most informed about computers.

Anonymous said...

Bernie,
The person who just asked if it's appropriate for police to investigate a fellow officer or any other city worker or local govt. official makes a valid point.

Bernie O'Hare said...

The police report is still up. As you go from one page to the next, you have to let it load. Googledocs and scribd have been persnicketty, but googledocs seems to work best.

Bernie,

You should ask for the records for repairs on the mayor's car under FOI for the last few years. Seems the car is always missing mirrors.
