Solicitor's Week?

In contrast to Bethlehem Township, where two Commissioners have been challenged and a ballot challenge is under way, the Supervisors' race in Hanover Township is quiet. Supervisors John N. Diacogiannis and Stephen R. Salvesen, both of them Republicans, face no challenges to their $2,500 per year position.

At their March 12 meeting, they tormented Solicitor Jim Broughal with a resolution declaring the week of March 17 as Solicitors' Week in Hanover Township. Broughal has served the Township since 1979. They threatened Hanover Engineering's Jim Milot that he's next.

Witnessing all this ribbing was Northampton County's former President Judge, Bob Freedberg. He was there for a conditional use hearing to establish a fitness facility called Circle Gym at 3894 Courtney Street.

After being referred to as "judge" several times, Freedberg thanked everyone for their courtesy, but reminded them that he is now just a lawyer in private practice. "You're still a judge in our eyes," responded Chairman Diacogiannis.

Then Freedberg held him in contempt.

Township Manager Jay Finnigan is currently working on a "Freedberg week" resolution.

Supervisors meet again on March 26, 7 PM at the Municipal Building at 3630 Jacksonville Road, to vote on Freedberg's application.

Jay Finnigan should be our county executive. Now there would be a qualified, level headed, non corrupt individual running the county. Marty as a candidate is a joke compared to Jay Finnigan. Jay is the best kept republican secret in the Lehigh Valley, but then again they have no idea about good candidates. Just look at the county council slate.

Jay would be excellent but would have to take a major pay cut and would have to get involved in politics again. As I mentioned before, he's happy as Tp Manager. Besides, he gets to drive a plow truck and everything!
