Gerlach's Public Safety Nightmare

At a "public safety" news conference conducted by Allentown Mayoral candidate Ce-Ce Gerlach, she asked City Council member Josh Siegel to say a few words. He claimed that the City's residents want to "take money from the Allentown Police Department and invest it in mental health, housing, homelessness and education."

In other words, defund the police.

He said "police don't keep us safe," adding they need no "more money or training." He urged Allentonians to vote for Gerlach, as well as Patrick Palmer and Justan Parker Fields "so we can actually pass legislation to get things done."

In other words, defund the police

Gerlach stated that Siegel's remarks "are what a Ce-Ce Gerlach administration would look like."

In other words, defund the police.

Gerlach failed to address her own public safety lapse in exposing a 16 year old boy to two nights of abuse at a tent city.

Allentown still isn't fixed from the Pawlowski debacle. It is addicted to poor government. Even Ray was there to enable Pawlowski. He was celebrity spa rehab-lite, and the junkie has predictably fallen off the wagon. Nat would have been a more serious rehab. But addicts can't recover until they've hit rock bottom and admit they have a problem. I suspect Cecelia is rock bottom and Allentown needs to elect her to finally admit it has a problem. Then again, maybe she's just a step down and rock bottom is still a few more steps away. I don't think there's a way to expedite this process. But Bernie's attempt at an intervention is laudable. I don't think it's hyperbolic to say that lives are at stake here.

Remember this Allentown voters; you need me - I don't need you. Elect these people and I'm done.

Allentown had four shootings last week. Folks say they use to keep their backdoors unlocked during the day.

We have finally gotten our police force back up to full strength, and finally have a great police chief. This would be the exact wrong time to cut the police, especially when they are facing an increased number of shootings. A couple social workers can be beneficial to supplement the police on certain calls, but that does not replace the need for the police. I remember what it was like when the police force was gutted during the Afflerbach years, and the gangs were running wild.

6:53, you are 100% correct. Nat Hyman would have cleaned city hall up and turned Allentown's finances around. He is exactly what we need, a tough, hard nosed businessman with no one he needs to pay off. If Gerlach wins it is the end of Allentown....rock bottom!

The mental health thing would be good for there evaluations and internment to a mental hospital for a extended stay.
