President Judge Koury Rises to the Challenge

When we think of first responders, we usually think of firefighters, police officers and EMTs. But since the Covid-19 crisis began, we've come to realize that there are many first responders, from grocers to gas stations to druggists. I would add one more name to the list - President Judge Michael J. Koury, Jr.

Since the Covid-19 crisis began, Judge Koury has shouldered the burden for the court. He and Judge Abe Kassis have together handled all the motions and emergency petitions. Don't take my word for it. Here's what another jurist, the Hon. John Morganelli, has said: "Judge Koury has done a tremendous job navigating the Coronavirus pandemic and is doing his best to keep our county court functioning. Judge Koury has issued 2 lengthy orders, the most recent being 44 pages, that rearranges our court calendar and keeps our court open for emergencies. But most impressive, is that he is singlehandedly sitting in court himself to hear emergency matters every day. Judge Koury, thank you for your leadership in these difficult times."

Now let me tell you a quick Judge Koury story. His late and sorely missed father, Michael Koury, was at one time athletic director and head coach of Allentown Central Catholic High School's boys' basketball team. This was before the three-point shot. He instilled an aggressive defensive mentality into his teams that has continued even until today. During those days, Coach Koury would bring his son Michael to the games. He was Central's mascot!

So always be nice to mascots.

What I miss most about the Covid-19 crisis is the opportunity to watch high school and college basketball.

Bernie you full of shit if you think the democratic party looks out for the poor, blue collar, and small business.--the democratic party is a high taxing party, they kill babies and more and look at what Wolf is doing to our small business. The dems will bankrupt this country if you elect Biden. Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff and Nadler are worse than the Chinese or Russians. The dems are socialist fascist who want to control you totally .Besides look at how they run the blue states and our cities.--they are a mess.

Way to go, Abe! Glad to see the junior most jurist hitting the ground running.

12:39 and 12:40 p.m.: What the heck is your problem? This is an article highlighting two (even though one gets the most focus) judges who are keeping the courts running and helping to prevent a backlog. Get a grip and grind your axe somewhere else.

As horrific as Covid-19 has been on the elderly in nursing facilities and it has been bad, and as taxing as the shutdown has been on the courts and everyone else, I feel really sad for the kids.

Lots of really great kids have missed an especially memorable part of their lives. I hope we don't gloss over their sacrifice, and although I don't know how to make it up to them or what that help would look like, we should try.

4:09/4:11, how about saying something positive about the dynamic duo of Koury and Kassis, rather than ranting.

I worked as a Constable for Judge Koury for many years, this doesn't surprise me in the least. He was an MDJ who was always early and often times stayed late..he was even there most times on state holidays when other MDJ's were out playing golf. His work ethic is second to no one! Kudos Judge Koury. I said from the start he would be a perfect Common Pleas Judge when even defended him here when you Bernie respectfully said you didn't think so. Now he is President Judge and I couldn't be prouder of him.
