NorCo Dems Propose Senior Citizen Expos

On Thursday, NorCo County Exec candidate John Callahan and the entire Democratic slate for County Council – Cheryl Borso, Ron Heckman, Deb Hunter, Tom O'Donnell, and Jerry Seyfried – will appear alongside former State Representative Rich Grucela at Gracedale Nursing Home to announce their "Renewing Our Commitment to Northampton County Seniors" initiative.

They will announce their intention to introduce Senior Citizen Expos, informative sessions to educate Northampton County seniors on the various services available to them through the Human Services Department. These expos will take place at least once a year at different venues around the County.

"One of the reasons I'm running for Northampton County Executive is because I know we can do a better job providing essential services to our Senior Citizens," said Callahan, who is also Bethlehem's Mayor. "With the guidance of my friends running for County Council, I am proud to announce that under my administration, we will renew Northampton County's commitment to our Senior Citizens."

Candidates are supposed to be available for questions after the announcement. If you have any, post them below, and i will ask as many of them as they allow.

Window dressing. What a novel idea. Only done by half of the state reps and senators. Good way to cultivate votes and to provide bag fulls of goodies and swag to the old folks.

If they had sold Gracedale the county would have had $35 million for senior programs. Throw them a few state maps and pens instead.

If they cared about seniors, they wouldn't continue to prioritize unsustainable union contracts over patient care at Gracedale. Money was wasted on the ambulance contract that could have gone toward improved patient care instead of Peg Ferraro's re-election campaign. Democrats would sooner have seniors eating dog food than face angry unions who occasionally strangle elderly patients and deliver miserable ratings compared to private homes.

"If they cared about seniors, they wouldn't continue to prioritize unsustainable union contracts over patient care at Gracedale"

why don't you go and ask these guys that? cause see, none of them are on council currently...it's the current republican and Lamont McClure controlled council that voted for that fiasco...

Not even elected and already they want to spend money. Here's a question Where si the money comming from to pay for these events? How about the dem's paying for it from their own pockets. Don't trust anything JC has to say--he continues to break promises.

What are their plans to help keep seniors in their own homes or with friends or family when they do not want to go into Gracedale or another nursing home? This will, however, be contradictory to the goal of keeping Gracedale as full as possible. So, was (is) keeping Gracedale actually a conflict of interest in best serving the needs of many seniors?

Bingo! Gene is absolutely correct. Selling Gracedale would have provided resources to expand programs and services for county seniors struggling to live with dignity in their own homes. That ship has sailed thanks to the hypocrites that wanted to save that archaic white elephant.

Actually, both Stoffa and Angle had plans to use sale proceeds pf Gracedale for that express purpose.

Please feel free to give me questions that can be posed tomorrow.

Nice to see that some sanity is setting in here. I want to suggest that as taxpayers we need to look at the spending at all levels of government and we need to have those numbers in front of us at all times. In addition to that we need to have fiscally responsible representatives again at all levels. We also need to learn the word no. We do that in our homes and we need to have it at all levels of government. 7:50AM has hit the nail right on the head and we need to make sure that the new Exeutives in both counties need to know that we will be there to stop the insane spending.

So say no to seniors, eh Chris? Even something as innocuous and inexpensive as info expos? Is this the hayden phillips philosophy, too? I know he is your bud, and know he has no intention of responding to my questionnaire because he is not transparent. is he as mean-spirited as you, too?

Mr Miller sounds frustrated to me not mean. There is a big difference. What he says is true you just don't like it coming from him. Actually he is the anti left wing progressive and we could use a few more of him. On the left they seem to get what they want and they get voted in. There are few moderate democrats any more. We are so far left that with a few Chris Millers pulling right we will be lucky to get back to the middle.... Truth is I like both of you and don't think it is mean at all to have a position and in these times it is impossible to avoid stating them.

Stoffa and Angle also planned to use the sale money to build a rocket ship and colonize the moon.

Oh Mr. Miller. I am proud of you. You gave up your publically funded school district pension you got through your union and you are forgoing social security. good for you. You love by your principles!

Phil are you crazy???? Chris paid into that for many years. It has nothing to do with his views. Would you like to pay his bills if he didn't take what he deserved to have. I do not like unions as they cost us too much but this is the system and has been. If you don't agree with it go out and try to change it before people invest in it for 30 years. Did you bother to get a college education and then pay for it?

Is this like the program form the Senior Centers like they had some year sago. It was called Seniors Count and they gave out good information.

The Republicans rightly believe that we are tired of funding stupid seniors that did not provide for their elder years. Also crooked seniors that hide their cash and have their greedy kids drop them off at the county's doorstep.

Enough. People are sick of this welfare state. Gracedale is just the tip of the iceberg with these seniors, they take and take. The current Republicans on county council understand this and are paying the price for their honesty.

The Demoncats will never understand this and will continue to pander to old grandma. No money, too bad. Get your freeloading relatives to help you. Also a lot of foreigners want to dump their old on the county home. How is that working out?

I hope this election the voters in the county finally catch up with the Party that is trying to save their money!

Let the Demanmdocraps have their stupid press conference, the uneducated uninformed masses will love their message.

OK. The teabaggers have officially gone off the cliff. So let us throw penniless old women to the curb especially foreigners.

You guys don't even know how nuts you are and it is why you will lose big time in November.

Unbelievable!!!!
