A 3-Hour Debate Among 12 Democrats is Too Much

Although I made it through last night's three-hour debate among 12 Democrats who want to be President, I learned very little. The questions were really bad, especially from The New York Times. The worst was the last one, posed by Anderson Cooper, asking candidates to say something nice about someone after they had just spent three hours tearing everyone apart.

The clear winner was Elizabeth Warren, who is able to present her extreme views in a likable and down-to-earth manner, despite relentless attacks. She also got to do the most talking. I'd give props to Bernie Sanders as well, who looked pretty sharp for a guy who just had a heart attack. He was very gracious to his fellow candidates and thanked them, I think sincerely, for their concern. Joe Biden did very well talking about foreign policy, and was able to step back while the arrows were aimed at Warren. But he has to stop patting himself on the back so much. Also, his son did a much better job explaining his poor judgment in trading off his father's name.

The rest had their moments, but the format is just terrible.

Any are an improvement over the orange menace. The answers by Tulsi and Mayor Pete were real world. They also know what they were talking about as opposed to Commander and Chief Bone Spurs, who knows more about the military than his generals. (his words)

What a complete waste of time.
The moderators were absolutely pathetic.

This was the first debate I have watched. Personally, it reinforced my perceptions of most of the candidates. I thought Buttigieg and Klobuchar came across as having vision, but being the most grounded and realistic. Biden seemed to be struggling to keep his train of thought at times, which made him come across like an old man past his prime. With Warren, my thought is always (and she was pressed by others on it) how are you going to pay for all of that? Sanders, fair or not, having a heart attack coupled with his age, is a non-starter for me. Beto comes across like a kid who shined in his Honors classes, but now that he's in AP is in over his head and outmatched but won't admit it to himself. Gabbard, was annoying at times, and while I understand some of the visceral foreign policy impulses not to be so involved in foreign policy that she somewhat shares with Trump, leaving a vacuum of US involvement, burning our allies, and not honoring our words only makes the world worse and America more unsafe. Booker is an eloquent speaker and cheerleader. Steyer was actually interesting, but could probably better serve the Dems with his money. And then there the others.

The robbing Peter to pay Paul debate was a joke. Free stuff ain't free, when someone else has their money confiscated to pay for it.

Bernie, you just liked Sanders because he is your namesake. His mother and father named him after you because they had met you and William Penn in the walking purchase days while you researched deeds of pocohauntuses tribes when whitey pushed them West.

Can’t picture anyone on that stage running this nation and dealing with world leaders. Dems will have to draft someone at the convention to have any chance.

All the dems can do is impeach a president in secret WHAT a bunch of phony politicians the democrats are they do know they can never beat TRUMP with their policies.

ANDERSON COOPER what a phony.

Beto back tonAAA for more seasoning as he can’t handle big league pitching. Mayor Pete excelled and should be VP nominee.
Sen Harris perfect for AG.
Joe needs to retire to farm in Del and Bernie to Vt to work on Memoir.
Hey, and Rudy lovers left ? He will look great in horizontal pinstripes.

So the debate moderators wanted to know about Ellen sitting with George Bush at a game?

But not ONE question about illegal immigration?

Anonymous said...

Watching the "debate" was like watching some asshole key the car you’re trying so hard to restore.

Anonymous said...

So they had questions galore, and it's not like the debate moderators and their Democratic Party bosses were trying to not repeat themselves. Questions about gun control, taxing the rich and health care have already been asked ad nauseum at earlier debates, and got asked again, which is why little new information came of this one, but nobody wanted a replay of that first debate, when all hands went up when asked if illegals should be entitled to free taxpayer-paid health care.

What we learn from this omission is that Democrats' previous championing of illegals is bombing with voters.

Nails dragged across the chalk board.
Painful.
Very, very, painful.

“Let me be perfectly clear…” “That’s not the question you should be asking.” “But what about women of color?” “Hate, hate, hate Trump the criminal.” “Impeachment, impeachment, impeachment.” “Tax the wealthy and destroy corporations.” “Middle class costs will go down.” “If you like your health insurance, you can keep your health insurance.” “You will save on your health insurance.” “And did I mention hate Trump and impeachment?”

So there you have it, the three hour debate in a nutshell.

Last night:

1. Gabbard was most beautiful on stage
2. Warren will be the democratic nominee
3. Buttigieg is the best democratic candidate

4. None of this matters because Trump is going to win by a landslide.

Anonymous said...

Gabbard was a disappointment, trying to gather support of the fallen away Trump voters who now realize a fool is in the White House.

Bernie never had much of a chance with me, being an everything free candidate, and his recent heart attack would have people judging a VP pick, rather than him.

Beto would be as clueless as Trump in the Oval Office.

Warren lost me with slave reparations. A stain on American history, but my tax money doesn't owe their great-grandchildren a dime.

Mayor Pete is the only one with common sense.

If you're a business person, it's pretty clear that each of the Ds has it in for you. I'm OK with them on most of the social issues, and understand they're tracking left in primary season, just as Rs track right before each modifies in the general. But the attitude toward businesses, most of which are small, as mine, is very unsettling. Warren is the most extreme of the group. They're making it difficult to vote for them.

I deleted several pro-Trump comments, obviously from the same person, with a penchant for the CAPS LOCK button. Also, drop the tribalism.

Agreed. She lost me last night. Plus, she was factually inaccurate in calling our involvement in Syria a "regime change" war. That is nonsense. We were there to stop ISIS and then pull out in a way that does not expose our allies there to genocide.

Bernie... Remember Cindy Sheehan?

I remember how she spoke, denouncing George Bush and demanding the troops be brought home. The Democrats were in their element, holding anti-war demonstrations with coffins and Afghani and Iraqi flags, yelling 'hey, hey, ho, ho, we won't go' and chanting "no war for oil." They held up pictures of bombed out little kids. Remember the smirking chimp?

How things change. Today it's Trump pulling the troops out, and Democrats adopting the Bush position, wars without end, keeping the status quo, keeping it all the same, claiming we have allies to defend.

Turkey is a NATO ally. That’s what’s making this whole thing such a mess. I’m sure every other NATO nation’s leaders are well aware of what’s going on, and have discussed it. Problem is, none of the them want to get involved. They want America to all the heavy lifting and take all the risks. On top of that, most of them refuse to pay their agreed upon share of NATO expenses! No reason why England, France, Germany, etc. can’t step up to fill the void this time.

Bernie O'Hare said...

10:57,Not analogous at all. There is a big difference between the decision to get involved with another country at all and whether to betray troops that have fought alongside you and lost lives. You know this and are just grasping at straws in a vain to justify a criminally incompetent decision by Trump.

There is also the pottery barn rule. If you decide to go in and break things, you have to fix them before you leave.

I completely understand nonintervention. but once you're in, you're in.

In a period of 2 short years, our involvement went from assisting in the destruction of ISIS to guaranteeing the security and independence of a middle eastern minority - namely the Kurds. Our mission, apparently overnight, evolved from a purely combat mission (destroying ISIS), to becoming a permanent Syrian occupation force to "protect" the Kurds. Another endless war without end.

Thanks to being the United States' agents to fight ISIS terrorists, the Kurds have a a quality military force in Syria, which has been hardened and sharpened by years of warfare. They are well supplied, and their recent agreement with the Syrian government will assure continued supplies. The Russians have also become involved against the Turks, and by killing Turks, Putin just laid waste to his efforts to curry favor with them. This will have repercussions in the years to come.

The Never-Trumpers and Democrats seem to have missed why Americans eventually came to vote for President Trump, who's tired of wasting U.S. lives and resources on the Middle East's endless and nonstop tribal conflicts and vainly hoping they'll all turn democratic. In a bid to Get Trump, they're now making themselves into warmongers, just as they accused President Bush 43 of.

Somewhere, George Bush is smiling.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Untrue. Once again, you twist facts in yet another vain attempt to justify Trump's betrayal. Until very recently, ISIS was very much a threat. Even now, remnants remain. What Trump did was impulsively decide to allow Turks to commit genocide against the one group that actually stood alongside us, with no regard for them or their security, and without any regard for about 1,000 American troops who were cut off and stranded. A plan was inplace for joint patrols along a buffer zone, which then would be followed by a coordinated American withdrawal. What Trump did is completely unAmerican. He has sent a message to all our allies that we are not to be trusted. He also left 50 nukes in Turkey. Absolutely criminal.

Not sure how we would know the good Kurds from the bad Kurds. Seriously. They don’t wear uniforms. They are nomadic. They occupy several nations and might have returned. They are all dark-haired, with most having beards. They don’t carry membership cards. Far too many people here, and in Syria, lie about everything all the time. There are millions of people in Syria who consider themselves Kurds and not all of them are combat troops. What’s the process?

Anonymous said...

AirForce Times claims those nukes are still housed at one of our military bases there. Sounds like they’re still secure.

In Vietnam, how could we tall the Viet Cong from the South Vietnamese? The Never Trumpers and Democrats want another Vietnam, and Trump isn't buying it.

12:11, The Joker just said they are safe, which means they are not. The truth is Turkey wants them and they should have been removed long ago,as soon as Erdogan began his authoritarian moves, which included the removal of many of the Turk officers at the airbase where these gravity bombs are held hostage. https://www.news.com.au/world/middle-east/deadly-diplomatic-challenge-turkey-holding-50-us-nuclear-bombs-hostage/news-story/1a89583915a67a51546a1f1f47c396e9

Currently we have 1,678 soldiers based in Turkey

Turkish Armed Forces had an active strength of around 402,000 active personnel... giving a combined active and reserve strength of around 932,900 personnel.

If you think those 50 nukes can be protected if Turkey gets a bug up their ass you're gravely mistaken.

The AirForce Times article also claimed Turkey doesn’t have an aircraft capable of delivering the bombs. Who knows what’s true in the AGE of LYING. Isn’t this the problem every poster here faces? Yes, Fake News is very real, and it allows dastardly things to happen under cover.

They could readily buy them. Some nation(s) would be more then happy to sell them I'm sure.

Since you are a Trump minion, and have no intention of voting for any of them, your evaluation is meaningless. Moreover, your slur at Biden is nonsense. While it is clear his son made an error of judgment, and said so, he did nothing that Trump’s own children aren’t doing right now, except two are on the public dole.

Former New York Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, is making suggestions he would be willing to step-in as candidate, if needed. I believe Bloomberg would make a much stronger candidate than any of the current group. Only problem I see, Bloomberg is from New York State. That state is probably a given Electoral Vote winner no matter how bad a Democrat candidate. Although, the present Democrat NY Mayor has already been rejected there. A comparable (to Bloomberg) new entry from Texas or Florida would greater benefit to the Democrat Party than Bloomberg. Any suggestions?

Untrue.

Anyone to the right of FDR is an imperialist anyone to the left is a communist.

My order of intention to vote..
1) Bernie Sanders
2) Tulsi Gabbard
3) Andrew Yang

I only vote for FDR democrats and if the DNC doesn't give me one,
I'll burn down the house with Trump.

Big boost for the Gabbard Campaign.

Hillary Clinton Crypto-scatologizes Russian grooming within the Democratic primary and specifically throwing her first handful at Tulsi Gabbard.

Quite a boost of concern for a candidate polling at 3 or 4 percent.

We know who Hillary Clinton thinks won the debate.
