Steve Barron on the left and Hayden Phillips on the right. Dean Browning is referee. |
Northampton County Controller's race pits incumbent Steve Barron, a Democrat, against challenger Hayden "The Colonel" Phillips, a Republican. Both candidates are going to have an opportunity to demonstrate who is best at running a campaign with limited funding. The federal investigation into pay-to-play in Reading and Allentown has made potential contributors think twice. For that, many mailmen will be thankful as election day approaches. So how are the candidates reaching the voters.
Barron appears to be making heavy use of technology. He has been placing Facebook ads strategically that are designed to reach a targeted audience. He also purchased an auto dialer and is using it to reach super voters and for polling.
Phillips appears to be relying heavily on a grass roots effort based on supporters from the Lehigh Valley Tea Party, along with mainstream Republicans.

If Del Whacked in the Head contacts me, I'll tell him where to shove the Colonel. Barron has my vote.
I plan on supporting my hero Hayden Phillips, despite his advocating a 20% tax increase.
A proud member of the tea bagger Party.
haa-kha--Gentlemen, please correct the flag placement in next photo. The last Mayor of Bethlehem,P.A.for example had it wrong in his photos during his last campaign and it is a 'signal' that other things may be out of order as well. Cooperate-Don't fight.
@3:54 am Great tea party values... I want no tax increases unless a member of my group does it.
@4:37 those flags are like that in council chambers all the time. Maybe the Colonel should be less worried about raising taxes and observant to the flag etiquette that he learned in the military.
The proposed tax increase that Hayden pushed for was particularly hurtful to the county employees that are county taxpayers. Not only did they have to pay more for their taxes, but they also had to pay more for their healthcare. Plus if you work in the prison Mr. Phillips is not pushing the executive to hire anyone. Not a word from the guy. That really agrivates me.
Council is oblivious to most functions in their chambers, let alone flag protocol. The only way the American flag should be in the middle is if the staff is higher than the other flags (unlikely hard to tell in this photo) or if it is in a prominent position in front of the other flags, which it is not. Therefore it should be to the left of the Pa. flag.
Three Stooges.
Little Stevie Blunder is riding a wave of anti-Brown sentiment but let us not forget how partisan this clown is. He panders to the unions, the far left, the party bosses. Phillips is his own man. He does not shy away from attacking Brown's devious plans. He would be an impartial watchdog for the county's finances. Barron will always side with the union's agenda to the detriment of county taxpayers. Time to dump the Teletubby in favor of the Colonel.
Ten Commandments plaque should be to the left of the American flag. God's law takes precedent over man's national symbols!!
Peter, I am certainly no expert, but believe the display as is may be correct. According to the Flag Code, "The flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group when a number of flags of States or localities or pennants of societies are grouped and displayed from staffs." There is other language elsewhere saying it should be on its own right. I honestly don't know, but do know that the intent is followed bc that flag gets the pledge before every meeting. Peter, know you know the Flag Code inside out, and if it is wrong, I will ask county administrators to fix thins. Please check this out with your buddies at the Legion and let me know. It never ev en dawned on me that the placement might be wrong. But I was in the Army.
As stated, if the American flag is in the center it should be taller than the other flags (highest point). I do not think that is the case with the flag in council chambers.
It is not. I will wait to hear again from peter bc he really does know this stuff. I think the flag has to be on its own right. If someone else here is an expert, let me know before I ask Linda to change the placement. Identify yourself like peter does so I can tell her who is saying the placement is wrong.
Would rather remain anonymous, but check with Freddie in the county's Veteran's Affairs office. He knows the flag code better than anyone.
OK.
I spoke to Freddie and he is more concerned about the placement of the flag outdoors. I'll leave this to an expert at the Legion, who will have to ID himself like Peter does.
In the news - Ten Commandments plaque removed by court order from Oklahoma capitol grounds.
Very good Bernie, center is ok if higher for The American Flag -but this is not the case here. As the VIEWER see's the flags ,The American Flag should be on the LEFT side of stage---[-to the right of the people standing there.]- -If worn as a shoulder patch as civil servants do on uniforms the stars -the union jack -should be presented forward on ether sleeve. When I see it done incorrectly ,I have to wonder ,what else is 'Out of line' SORRY NO QUESTION MARK ANYMORE ON THIS BUTTON BOX.I'm saving to pay down my taxes this year. This is good Bernie, it bring attention to details an sets the stage.Get it .Master Chief Brotzman,USNR was a master at knowing things like this and would get on our case at a funeral or Veterans Day if we flubbed up--and the correct us--a mentor, and great man . -God bless him. It's about all of us .
I think chubby little Stevie Baron is just great. I like his furry little goatee beard surrounding his plump little red lips. He sure has a purdy mouth.
Can someone please tell me who is in charge of the Tea party on a national, state and local level?
We know who is in charge of the gop and democrat parties on all levels , but I am interested in knowing who is the national tea party leader and if they are a political party, do they appear on the ballot as a tea party candidate. Can one vote for the Tea Party?
From what I read , the so called tea party believes in a smaller more efficient govt, cutting waste , fraud and corruption with in the current govt atmosphere, strong border security, free trade, strong defense and so on. how can these ideas be a bad thing ,especially in todays environment.
we just received a report the federal govt pays 100 billion in false welfare claims. is it a bad thing to stop this waste? 100 billion could go a long way for schools, old people, vets, medical care and so on.
why does the media and those on the left and the right continually go after the tea party? I don't get it. please explain.
Thank you
Notice how those who constantly belittle this "Tea Party" have no response to such a valid question. Haters gotta hate. Left wingers and other feel-good hacks have to keep spending other people's money no matter what. When all else fails, chuck out the Race Card. That gets people back in line soon enough.
Couldn't agree more. The left libtards are destroying this great nation.
Proud member of the tea bagger Party.
Hopefully the fake "small government" tea party guy and Barron are not running for Executive in two years. In fact hopefully none of the current county officials are candidates. They are all hacks and not ready for prime time.
Please how about some maturity ,experience and common sense.
"Notice how those who constantly belittle this "Tea Party" have no response to such a valid question."
What the Hell is your question? You gave a rambling diatribe damming all politicians but then only focusing on Democratic government officials. You want good government at no cost to taxpayers, you want accountability, you want honesty, Who the Hell doesn't want that?
So I doubt it is possible for you but what precisely is the question you accuse all Democrats of not answering. Please do not speak in the teabbger Party code/buzz words, just the Kings English.
Thank You. U.S. citizen
