"At approximately 8:30 AM today, an employee of JD Eckman, Inc. was tragically killed when portions of a trench in which he was working collapsed. A second JD Eckman employee was injured during the incident.
"The contractors were onsite working in a trench at the west end of the Lehigh County-owned Linden Street Bridge. They were replacing duct lines at the west end of the bridge as a follow-up to the bridge’s replacement, completed last April.
"The bridge will remain closed while the Pennsylvania Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigates onsite, and is expected to be reopened today.
"There is nothing more important than the health and safety of our employees, and of those who work in and use our facilities. Our main concern now is for the family of the deceased and the speedy recovery of the injured contractor."
