Who Won Last Night's Debate, Phillips or Pawlowski?

Channel 69's televised Allentown mayoral debate between challenger Tony Phillips and incumbent Edwin Pawlowski may be viewed here. Host Rob Vaughn certainly had his hands full, but was obviously prepared with some good questions.

Pawlowski tried to dominate the thirty minute session, but Phillips hit him hard on nearly everything, from Allentown's crime to the city's shaky finances to King Edwin's "pay to play" campaign finances.

I'd give Phillips the win, but had a poor opinion of Pawlowski before the debate ever started. My view is biased. What do you think?

Pawlowski has political signs up )
and down Allentown's 15th St.
on public right of way and state highway property. Is this legal?

That wasan't a debate. It was at best a collection of campaign soundbites.

You can't claim a winner if there was no contest.

Any amapaign that uses Fleck will be placing signes in the wrong places. But call PenDot, do not take any action yourself.

The question that should be asked is: Did the people of Allentown win?.
.
Phillips seemed to have no solutions, Pawlowski is giving away the store now on the hope of future gain.
.
If barking is winning, then Phillips "won". If economic development at any cost is paramount, Pawlowski "won".

I watched the debate during my lunch. It is regretful that Tony waited so long to go on such a powerful offensive. If he had hit Ed that hard starting in the summer he might have gained some traction and resonated with the electorate. I still think it is Ed's coronation party, but Tony could have made it interesting.

If Fleck wanted to come up with an interesting campaign synergy, he could have captured rats from City Hall a,d painted "Pawlowski" on them with glow in the dark paint. They could have claimed it would help crime fighting at night, part of their many technological leaps forward in crime fighting. You know, the ones that have improved case solving from +70% to under 40%. Just imagine what four more years can bring, maybe get it under that magic number of 10%?

Just think how the actions of Phillips would have been if KennyBoy would not have been his campaign manager at a pay of $500 per week. If Tony only had that money today. Hey KennyBoy why not give Tony's campaign a large contribution. Ask the question KennyBoy, what did I do to deserve it?

Will any Pawlowski signs be placed by Mr. Fleck at area AutoZone stores? It seemed to get him a lot of attention last time. Just saying.

Anbody who says Fatlowski won is out of their minds!!!! He says the same thing!!! He starts off by saying "when I came here four years ago" and than ends it "do we have a long way to go? yes"

Its funny cause he was part of the problem four years ago!!!! He was Afflorbachs economic developer. I though it was a fluke he ever got elected!!!

Vote Tony Phillips 2009!

I know Tony Phillips personality. He is such a great man and if people knew him you wouild love him too. Hes really down to earth and loves Allentown. Does anybody really buy that Pawlowski cares about allentown. He came here from Chicago in 1998. Hes not here to fix the city, hes here to fix his wallet!

Vote 4 Tony!!!!

When is the council debate?

Bernie O'Hare said...

There is no televised council debate. All you have is my video, at least until it was stopped by Guridy.

There will be no Council Debate. Afraid Hershman will show the voters he has answers, the Democrat candidates have none. I attended a nighborhood meeting where the candidates appeared and only Hershman could provide answers to the questions that were raised.Wait to next week, Mailers and Ro-BO callls, the Mayor and Council Candidates, will b misleading the voters.

Steve, I often refer to Pawlowski as King Edwin, in reference to his auitocratic style of government. I've seen him referred to as Paloser, which to me is no big deal. I'm not sure where the line should stop, but would appreciate it if he did not refer to pawlowski as Fatlowski. I think you can make your points w/o doing that.

Steve, Please do not post comments here that wish for physical harm against another person. That could be construed as criminal behavior. I cannot permit it.
