"Voters First" Pledge: Charlie Dent, Where Are You?

In June, Public Citizen asked ALL Congressional candidates to sign the "Voters First" pledge. This is a pledge for campaign finance reform, meaningful restrictions on gifts and travel from lobbyists and online disclosure of lobbyist contributions. Charles Dertinger has taken this pledge while Congressman Charlie Dent is too busy picking up campaign checks so he can continue his personal assault against Dertinger.

Hey, negative campaigning ain't cheap!

Give it a rest. Why should politicians have to sign every last one of these dipshit pledges?

You know who else who didn't sign the stupid thing -- Barney Frank. Read his response and then look at the Pledge.

Franks has a valid point. The Pledge basically begins: "Since you're a politician you must be a scumbag and shouldn't be trusted around children."

To hell with groups like that. What, their shit doesn't stink? Who says?

All of these special interest groups on both sides are fake and ridicuolous. They cherry pick legislation right down to picayune amendments that will never pass, but that they can use in their little guidebooks.

You know what? I'm forming a group right now. I'm going to call it: Valiant Organizers Taking on Elected Scumbags. (See you need a cutesy acronym to be official.) I'm going to sent out an e-mail to local pols that will read like this:

Dear Elected Scumbag:

Since you're elected, you must be a scumbag and doing something wrong. Please sign the attached form and return to us yesterday admitting that you're a scumbag and that you're going to try and stop being a scumbag.

I'll let you know as soon as Jenn Mann or Rich Grucela send it back. In one week I'm going to call a press conference naming every elected official in the Valley who doesn't sign it as a VOTES "Certified Scumbag."

Dertinger would probably sign it since he'd pledge to eat dung beetles right now to get votes. In fact, if the election were like an episode of Fear Factor he might even have a shot.

Challengers aren't worried about governing they're only worried about campaigning. I'm surprised that a guy like you falls for all this pledge crap, Bernie.

Oh, want some more public officials who have the guts to let Public Citizen know what they can do with their poorly written pledge:

John Murtha, Bob Brady, Nancy Pelosi, George Miller, Pete Stark,
Diane Feinstein, Chuck Rangel, Nita Lowey, HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON, Lois Murphy, Joe Sestak, Patrick Murphy, Chris Carney, Paul Kanjorski, BOB CASEY, Olympia Snowe, Patrick Kennedy, Sheldon Whitehouse, Lincoln Chaffee, Robert Byrd, Kent Conrad.

There are literally hundreds of incumbents and challengers from both parties that haven't signed the pledge.

We could all think less of them for not signing some interest group's pledge. Or, we could try thinking for ourselves.

But, what do I know. I'm just Anonymous.

Geez Bernie, why do I get the feeling that anon. 1:27 would go ballistic on dertinger if he didn't sign it and dent did?

To Anon 1:27, At your suggestion I did read Barney Frank's reply. He supports and has voted for the measures proposed in the pledge. But he felt a little inmsulted to be asked to pledge to do something he was already doing.

I have to admit you persuaded me. I don't know whether it was the logic or the humor.

dg, I know Anon 1:27 doesn't care for Dertinger, but he put me in my place. More importantly, he's right.

I'm more interested in hearing about Dent's reform positions. So far I haven't heard anything, only that Dertinger is a bad person.

I saw two of Dent's mailers. From what I read about Dertinger, he's worse than me!

So there are two "Anons."

Dent is a dirty fighter; he smeared Driscoll and is doing it to C/DERT while hiding behind that seemingly harmless countenance.

Mr. Moshki, There are quite a few eho prefer to post anonymously. I usually don't mind it bc it it encourages more open debate.

DENT IS DUCKING DEBATES! Why? He has yet to respond to the League of Women Voters in setting dates for even ONE debate! What is he afraid of? His Bush voting record???

To Anon 8:04, You must be connected to Dertinger's camp. If what you claim is true, then have someone who has a name send me an email and I'll blog it. Dent really should debate. But if you want me to complain about it, I need to know it is the triuth and need to hear something from someone who is willing to disclose his or her identity. Thanks.
