Elections have consequences. We have seen the very real truth in that with the reorganizations of the various local government units. The marked shift in power with the NorCo County Council represents a trend that will be interesting to watch over the next several years.

Bethlehem Township on the other hand was perhaps the one that may have surprised most. With the election of two more Democrats to the Board, I don't think most anyone figured that they'd vote to put a Tea Party member in the Board presidency.

Elections have consequences -- but does it really count when the elected officials don't hold to the predictable?

**********

Doubt if you heard about Hanover Twp, Northampton Co. waste and recycling schedule.

e-mail sent out Monday announced that the pick up dates were reversed. e-mail sent out Tuesday had calendar - revised as an attachment. e-mail from Finnigan said "Again, I apologize for any inconvenience", he never apologized in the first place.

Since one has to sign up to receive e-mail from the township, I wonder how he plans to inform those who have not signed up for e-mail.

I predict donchez will be a one term mayor. Love his open door policy. You can have a whole 15 minutes of his time while karner does not allow visits from downtown business. But their boy ronco obviously has 24 hour access. Try to keep the city web site up to date. The IT guy gets over $104,000 and year and neither the 2016 budget address or the 2016 budget in on the City's website. (9.1% tax increase in 2 years, the hidden Hirko tax, continuously raising fees, $6,000 to $12,000 raises. See ya, bobby.

**********

OMG!!!!! The Boyd finally sold. More importantly Donchez and Karner actually accomplished something after 2 years. But don't hold your breath, we've heard this song and dance before concerning the Boyd. WINK, WINK

**********

Where have all the skirts gone? Does anyone notice besides me? More and more women wear pants almost exclusively and to be sure a makeup check may be needed to help with identification.

Wait un till men start wearing more and more makeup women will look like men and a unisex will result. What a sad day that will be

Chris Casey: The Bike markers are on Hamilton boulevard from Ciocca all the way thru Trexlertown, out past the Velodrome, to where Hamilton Boulevard merges with the bypass heading towards Kutztown. We joke they mark the spots where cyclists are going to get run over. Stupidest thing we have ever seen. Wonder how much that grant was, and who administered it.

I like reading Ron Beitler's blog and think he is very smart and an asset to Lower Macungie. I have 2 thoughts on him serving with his father on the LMT Board. The 1st is that I wonder how many people voted for the father thinking that they were voting for the son? The 2nd is as much as I like Ron, I don't think it is good local government when 2 close family members serve on the same board. A husband and wife, brothers, or father and son should never serve on the same board. On the LMT Board they would only need 1 other member to vote with them and they would get their way.

**********

When (and If) an indict comes down on the Mayor of NIZville I was planning on celebrating at Shulas Steakhouse, oh snap.

Wait and see on the Boyd building. The Moravian deal fell through because they didn't have the cash. However, word has it they will be miraculously saved by the city. keep and eye on Karner on this deal. Lets see what happens when the other shoe falls.

Bethlehem, trying to stay hidden under the Allentown cloud.

The prediction on donchez will probably become reality. His integrity has been severely damaged and he has stepped on a lot of toes over Martin Tower. Nice guy, but a very ineffective leader. Many say this has opened the door for Willie but I think his own actions have slammed that door shut.

Look for the business community to support someone else.

Upper Saucon had this very issue. Husband and Wife. Said it was legal. Unattractive for sure.

Agree with Chris Casey, can Ron Beitler weigh in on how LMT ever allowed bike lane markers?

This is clearly BAD planning and dangerous. Encouraging bikes to drive in the middle of Hamilton
Boulevard, is not smart planning, but rather the epitome of dumb planning. Car vs. bike doesn't
End well for bike. Hopefully Ron can get this fixed. Thanks!

I can say from personal experience that Rep. Schlossberg runs a first class constituent service operation. He's quick to call personally to help solve a problem, and hasn't a bit of arrogance about him. That makes people who've experienced such a positive encounter with the state legislature awfully forgiving of a transgression like "ghost voting." I'n not saying what he did was right -- it's not -- but he's earned some slack among many of his constituents, and now he's getting it.

He's a fine fellow. I hope we can move on with his career intact...

Schloss is a greedy self serving twerp who was given his chance to serve citizens but now must be removed from office due to his dis-honesty (ghost voting) and guilt by association in the corruption in the city of Allentown as a former councilman.

Did you see this?

Senator Scott Wagner blog:
My colleagues and I in the Republican House and Senate are standing up to Governor Wolf’s demands for more of your tax money. We’re calling on the Governor to first address the spending side of the equation before reaching into the wallet of taxpayers. That’s where we would like your input. Please send me your suggestions for ways to reduce government spending and save tax dollars. Here are some ways I believe we could see significant savings.
•Eliminating prevailing wage mandates.
•Moving management of pension funds to a private firm.
•Implementing Gov. Wolf’s GO-TIME savings initiative.
•Using savings from Medicaid expansion to prevent tax hikes rather than spending it.

Democrats are famous for what they do to non-team players. The fear down at City Hall in the Corruption Capital of the Commonwealth is palpable and proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that giving out one's name isn't always such a great idea. Plus, everyone knows what the IRS does to those who do not kiss Democrat butt.

Hillary is a team player and so is Schlampesberg.

YOU SIR, HAPPEN TO BE ,ONE OF THE VERY REASONS, THIS CITY, THIS STATE AND THIS COUNTRY IS IN THE DUMPER. NO MATTER WHAT THESE HACKS DO, HE GETS YOUR VOTE. LIKE THEY ALL SAY. LETS PUT IT ALL BEHIND US BC WE HAVE MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES TO ADDRESS. WAKE UP YOU ROBOT...

This attitude reminds me of days gone by when our neighborhood in Philly was owned and operated by the mob. they committed every crime under the sun...but as long as they had the 4th of July fireworks show, the Christmas party for the kids and a few other community based events like building a park and providing new equipment for that park, all was forgotten ..like I said many times..

character does not matter to voters any more. party is all that matters and there you have part of the problem. this is not a one party problem. this is a voter and 2 party problem..

"Republicans are dreaming if a 20-year-old is going to beat a Muhlenberg graduate. "

This will be the first time in my life that anyone has referred to Muhlenberg in a way that signifies its grads are highly intelligent and is most likely a cynical attempt by Schlossberg and his camp to attract Muhlenberg voters in his district. Muhlenberg is a great school, bit is not ivy league by any stretch. It is like Moravian.

Schlossberg voted YES for the Delta Thermo Energy incinerator deal that the FBI is now closely investigating. Schlossberg voted YES for the DTE incinerator just as Pawlowski and Marcel Groen wanted him to. Schlossberg would have also voted for the 50-year water/sewer lease.

If you think this man is "good" then I would suggest looking closer.

Useless. If I'm wrong, please correct me. Jeffrey Anthony, how can you say these things about Schlossberg? You and others are reasons why men like Schlossberg remain in power.

Should I assume you also voted for Mary Ellen Koval? She seemed like a nice lady too.

Allentown Councilman Mike Schlossberg resigns, urges council to not to rush water, sewer lease

"Proudest accomplishments" was the cell phone ban? A ban that was illegal to begin with? How could a person be proud of this at all? Is Schlossberg proud of voting YES for the Delta Thermo Energy incinerator that the FBI is now investigating? This is all laughable.

Mayor Docnchez is certainly concerned about his reelection. His opponent will be Bethlehem's favorite son, Jim Gregory. Mr. Gregory is the Patriarch of Politics, the man women want to be with and men want to be like. When the Mediterranean manslab announces his candidacy for Mayor Donchez will probably drop out much like Johnson in 1968. With his flowing sable mane and rippling muscular bronze hued body, who could resist voting for him. He is a Mesa with a background in both criminal justice and social services. Bernie, I pray you get the first interview.

He will be home soon to start his road to Payrow Plaza.

Keep on it Bernie, I heard Donchez say how tight things are going to get with the budget in Bethlehem. However Karner and all but one dept head received raises of 6%to12% raises plus we still give them city cars to take home and abuse. By the way the dept heads make up the city budgets and take care of their selfs pretty well with property tax payers money. Out all the dept heads only one lives in the city and he recieved the lowest percentage 3% what a slap in the face. It's time the residence speak up and tell the mayor to require them to live in the city and pay some of the taxes we are paying. If that the case maybe they will think twice on we they make up the budget.

Gotta' love when people post outright lies. Alicia drives her own car. The Mayor drives his own car. There are about 15 people working for the City who are supplied with a vehicle., outside of those who are in public safety and should have a city vehicle at all times. They are in public works and parks, and argue they can be called in at a moment's notice.

I have also deleted a comment slamming the station bc its station manager is the President of the Chamber's Board. I would expect the Chamber's Board to be made up of local businesses, and see nothing nefarious about the station hosting a show that probably provides more of a public service than I've seen from the nonprofit TV station that operates in the LV.

Now that 2016 is here, I would be surprised if the Republicans don’t take 45, 46 or perhaps 47 states out of the 50 states in the general election this fall.

Looking at the Republican candidates, I don’t see one of them who wouldn’t do a great job as president. Trump is phenomenal. I even like Jeb Bush, he did a wonderful job in Florida. Chris Christie is also a very good, and strong candidate.

The biggest dark cloud hanging over Hillary Clinton is the FBI investigation into her handling of classified material. From all accounts, it appears the FBI will recommend she be indicted on multiple counts. The Democrats simply cannot nominate a candidate with indictments hanging over her head. Also, the most prevailing thought from the American people about Hillary Clinton is negative.

I don’t think Hillary Clinton is going to win this election no matter whom she runs against. she’s a very impressive person, very well educated and all of that, but she is not very articulate, and her policies are not good.

9:00 AM @ Jeff Anthony ..Moral outrage? Really now? How about scamming the system and cheating the system and the People .
But Schloss is a fine guy right? He did for you but screwed everyone else and has no character. Well that's fine and dandy.

Your logic is despicable. You are also morally bankrupt. And like many have stated before, you are a huge part of the problem. Turning a blind eye to continual waste , fraud and corruption does not bode well for any community/ govt.

It reminds me of a criminal who robs 5 houses a week, but now he only robs 2.
Of the two houses that were robbed, neither are owned by you. I guess he is a good guy bc he cut down on his crime and it didn't effect you. So character doesn't matter for you? That is obvious? Truth and honesty is no concern? That is obvious. Some people still believe that character is important in all people, especially elected officials.

Stop voting party lines for people like Schlossberg or any GOP hack who conducts himself like this.

In the private sector , actions , like those of Schlossberg and the govt would be criminal. To spin it any other way is not being honest and it is nothing but making excuses for their behavior.

I am no fan of either party, especially when behavior like Schlossberg gets exposed.
Both parties and the straight ticket voters, like you, created this mess.

Again, I go back to my younger days, in our Italian neighborhood. The mob would throw community events to garner favorable public opinion , while at the same time they were murdering people daily, extorting local businesses, and govt officials, and so on. This is the same scam guys like Schlossberg and morally bankrupt political hacks from both parties pull on a daily basis. They love voters like you, bc they can almost get away with murder and you will still pull the lever for them. The politicians love guys like you who defend their wrong doings daily. You are a useful idiot and they know it.

Welcome to politics Mr. morally bankrupt guy. If you think govt works for the people and Schloss works for the people you are wrong.

Anonymous said...

Muhlenberg College is a fine school. I applied to it and was accepted after I graduated from Allen. I had a "C" GPA of about 2.1, and that tells me they are generous with their admissions program. Although I didn't have the money at the time, went into the Navy instead and put off college for a few years.

I don't know what Schlossberg's grades were but I'm sure as long as he paid his tuition he was accepted. Was he on the Dean's list at Muhlenberg? Or did he just graduate.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Schlossberg will stress that often since many Muhlenberg people live in his district. But before they blindly pull the lever, each of them should know that Schlossberg not only ghost voted for another state rep without that person's permission in a crucial matter, and then arrogantly defended what he did. Don't we have enough crooks already?

Anonymous said...

How does Muhlenberg get dragged into this? It is a 'fine school' but it is also one of the most selective in the nations in admissions. I don't know when the earlier poster applied there but I can assure you, with a C-average you couldn't even get a football player into Muhlenberg. Moravian, maybe.

Anonymous said...

How dare anyone talk about Moravian like that. You scum-sucking Muhlenberry pigs wouldn't know what a C-average football player would look like unless you were getting beat by Lebanon Valley. @11:55 "Ron Beitler comments here from time to time. I'd appreciate knowing his thoughts on the plan to re-zone East Texas Village. I believe the plan allows the former Daytimers parking lot (multiple acres) to be developed with twin homes."

Correct, the BOC will be considering village residential zoning this month. It's the result of a 6 month public process that involved a steering committee of East Texas business owners and residents. The committee was open to anyone interested.

Understand right now ET is zoned "S-Suburban" meaning by-right Smooth-on can develop the parking lot today with single family homes. Also under the existing zoning the unit count could be higher than what's proposed today by smooth on.

You are correct in a sketch we've seen the units would be twins. But again, total count less than what can be done by-right today. This is because the units will be arranged around a very large central greenspace. The plan would actually take a parking lot that is today somewhere around 70% impermeable and make it around 35% impermeable. That is huge.

The other question I've gotten is access. Nothing is proposed to change. One way in access off ET Rd. and Lower Mac driveways. All exiting traffic would use the Lower Mac Rd. driveway traffic signal.

Other interesting and imo pretty cool thing here is the intent is to build these units for smooth on employees only. Sort of a company town mentality. The owner wants to offer his employees the chance to live in the same neighborhood as the facility and be able to walk to work. Which would of course reduce daily trips since now those employees drive. (There is an existing tunnel under Lower Macungie Rd.) I think it's a neat throw mind set. They are totally invested in the neighborhood.

Overall, It's really is a nice plan and I'd be happy to share it with anyone interested. Remember, we do not have a formal application. Just a sketch. The other issue which was the driving factor was that the smooth on facility is a non-comforming use. This proposal fixes that. It also addresses other non-comforming uses like the hair salon, deckers corner and the old victorian office building.

If you recall in the past there have been other much denser proposals on the parking lot including an apartment plan. Compared to other past proposals this one is very neighborhood friendly.

If you or anyone wants to see the sketch email me at ronbeitler@gmail.com
