First it was the destruction of an open space piece of land in Bethlehem Twp and then is was the construction of a cell tower in Lower Nazareth Twp, what is wrong with our elected and appointed officials in not working with and or communicating with the residents? Do they have all the answers? Best legal advice taxpayers can buy?

Bernie; Did you send me something as an e-mail? I generally do not open files if I'm not convinced the person is not a phisher.
Send it again if it was you. Dave Molony

Is this a place for opinion or for politicians to use for self promotion?

So the Allentown school thing got the rusty bearings rolling in my noggin, why not make the next boss's contract contain incentive driven bonuses. the better the students do the more money you get, do the same with teachers. I mean really, aren't the kids grades and graduation rate a measure of the school district's work?

@11:09,
The answer is "sometimes". When the education ends at the end of the school day, you can only pin a part of it on teachers. Encouragement to succed outside the classroom is also needed.

PENN FOREST TOWNSHIP — The question of whether a wind turbine farm can take root on pristine acreage surrounding Bethlehem's water supply contains all the ingredients of a raucous public battle: home values, big energy and bald eagles.

The passions over those issues electrified the Penn Forest Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 hall Thursday during a zoning hearing packed with nearly 300 opponents. Some critics hurled boos at a Sierra Club official for supporting the project and applauded verbal jabs against the wind energy company, Iberdrola Renewables.

This is a forum in which readers can sound off on anything. That includes local candidates seeking election, both Democrat and Republican. I actually appreciate it because it helps to make readers aware.

I received one of those emails from your account, Bernie. It was an obvious phishing scam that claimed you were trying to send me an email that was too large (only 450KB), designed to obtain passwords to accounts like gmail, yahoo mail, etc.

It was definitely from your account, and I assumed you had been hacked.

Probably pawlauski or some other disgruntled politician

It happens to everyone. But what I can say is that no one hacked into my account to create false Identities that I then used on Lehigh Valley Live to post as the Mayor of Easton for months, as Panto disingenuously claimed had happened to him.

The Morning Call is running a headline story about drug addition in the Lehigh Valley this morning. The main photo is a brochure that says "Heroin --a deadly drug".

Are people so stupid that they need a pamphlet to tell them that Heroin can kill them?

Obama is forcing the Pentagon to repeal its ban on transgender service members, meaning U.S. soldiers will soon be serving under the command of cross-dressing soldiers.

This is another example of how the left bypasses Congress and the voters by using the military to promote and advance social changes nationwide.

I see a lot of people talking about guns who don’t anything about guns. A lot of them think that AR-15 "AR" stands for "assault rifle". But it doesn’t. and it’s not an assault rifle. It stands for "Armalite Rifle", who invented the rifle in 1957.

It’s not an automatic weapon. Those are illegal. There are a lot of weapons they’re not even talking about banning that basically do the same thing as an AR-15, because you have to squeeze each round.

Like him or not, Trump is the only hope we have to bring our country back to the law abiding international superpower position we once held. Political correctness has undercut our military capabilities with mass resignations of career soldiers due to Obama leadership direction regarding social changes & battlefield control. This coupled with poor judgement in hasty exit from Iraq unraveled the heroic efforts of our military leaders to stabilize that country. Immigration control is at the heart of financial stability & maintaining American culture. No one other than Trump will address this issue.

I'm curious about the Maingate closing due to "noise violations." I don't doubt it's noisy around there when a show is going on. But...it's been noisy for decades. Why can't they get a variance, considering it's been allowed to operate this way since 1980?? Why the sudden violations for noise that has always been there? It seems to me that there is an ulterior motive at play here...

momma@10:22, i believe that there may be an ulterior motive at play. about 6 months ago, i overheard a bar owner telling his attorney about the LCB citing them for something almost contrived. i recently noticed a very long time center city bar also cited for a very, very minor oversight. the number of licenses in downtown is limited, while the company known as City Center keeps needing more and more licenses. i wonder if there might be a connection between that regulated supply and demand? i should repeat that this is nothing more than speculation on my part.

while i'm here, let me reassure people that my posts are still published very early weekday mornings. for unknown reasons, there is an 8 plus hour delay before my new posts are noted here on bernie's blogroll.

Main Gate Noise violations is odd citation as there are no close by residential blocks, rather medical offices and the fairgrounds. Very odd indeed.

A commenter on the Call's sight astutely points out that Stooges and Roosevelts also shut down. Stooges closed in April or May, and they would not say why. Roosevelts closed recently, too. The restaurant business is moody. But in the case of Maingate, we know why they closed down (temporarily?) and we know they don't want or need to shut down for any other reason than sudden and unexplained interest on the part of code enforcement. I guess they need to pay the local mafia for protection from our own city's thugs.

Automatic (select fire) rifles are in no way illegal. They are regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934. Each select fire rifle owned has a one time tax of $200. The Gunowners Protection Act of 1986 was amended to stop production of select fire (automatic) firearms for non-government entities (regular folks). All of the select fire guns made prior to May 1986 are fair game for purchase ($200 tax, lengthy paperwork processing of up to one year).

Select fire rifles are cost prohibitive for many due to scarcity. It's a back door form of gun control (taxation and artificial scarcity).

Some states disallow select fire rifles, but many do not. Same goes with suppressors (silencers), rifles with barrels shorter than 16", and shotguns with barrels less than 18".

Select fire (machine guns) fetch anywhere from 10k to $150k depending upon the type of rifle.
