Jerry Seyfried, Home Rule Charter Expert |
Former County Exec Jerry Seyfried is an avid sportsman and an expert archer. It's tough for him to carry a bow and arrow in a holster, but he tries. He's asked me to tell you about Pa. Open Carry, which should be able to answer most questions.
Although Pa. is a right to carry state, Jerry has this caution for sportsmen:
As a hunter, may you carry a handgun without a "carry permit" or a "sportsmen carry permit"? Since this is a right to carry state, you shouln't need a permit. However, game laws are also enacted by the Legislature and therefore make certain mandates on the sportsmen and women of Pennsylvania. The answer to the question is "YES". As a sportsman you need a carry permit or a sportsmen permit to carry a handgun. You may not hunt without it nor may you fish and wear a sidearm or carry a concealed weapon without the proper permit. Remember the website is.....paopencarry.org
Now go whip some shit on your beer drinking buddies. If you have any questions on this subject please don't hesitate to ask me those questions. I'm starting to become quite an authority on this issue. dumdeedumdum

Good to see jerry looking healthy. he was one of the good ones in Reibman's admin, and a good county exec in his own right.
Jerry is a good guy, and I would do better if I listened to him more often.
Gerry has done more for the sportsmen of our area than any ten politicos I can think of. Too bad he won't consider getting back into politics. He was the kind of guy that told you the way it was. Love him or hate him, he didn't pull the punches just to get votes. We as sportsmen miss him.
Morning Bernie, just got back to reading your blog, Jerry was an all-round sportsman, he loves wrestling also, used to pick up my Dad (Archie Leigh) to attend matches. Jerry is also a gentleman.
And Carol, you are a lady.
I recently renewed my carry permit and actually read through the laws again. Going in and out of public buildings I rarely take the chance to have a weapon on me though. It always surprises people about the open carry law here in Pa. You could write a piece on stand your ground law next. With the nasty incident that happened in Florida, we could use the education.

I was a horrible shot in the army, which is probably why I was in artillery. Gives me a little more leeway. I did own a few rifles at one time, but I kept them at a freiends house bc I did not want my kids near them. Unfortunately, my friend got arrested and the cops took every one of those guns, which includeed an Uzi and an Egyptian rifle from the Six Day War. That was my favorite. The ad for it said, "Dropped once!"
8:43, Jerry is one of the best out there and a one-person encyclopedia when it comes to Northampton County.
Not funny to laugh at someones untimely death, but that is a great line! I have several WWII, WWI, Civil war and earlier Colts. Of course my personal newer carry piece too. Its the history of the old weapons that I like the most though.

and before people beat me up as usual...yes I am a Dem, a close friend of Callahans AND not anti gun both for personal protection and sporting.

A pro gun, pro sports D! He should be preserved forever. I wonder if he clings to religion, as well? Way to be Jerry.
Could someone please interpret his statement. it sounded like gibberish.
Jerry was appointed to county council in 2009, and in half a year did a great job. If memory serves, he's a dem but the dems didn't support him. Why? How did he get the job?
Well, it was the McHale, McClure Dertinger junta back then Jerry was far too independent for them. They were backing Heckman.
here's a little story. Once Jerry had 5 people committed to voting for him - and he did that himself by calling them one at a time - Jerry made sure that Lamont, Dertinger and McHale knew he had 5. The idea there is that, this way Ron could pull his name and would not have to be embarrassed. Although those three stooges lacked the class to do that, I always thought Jerry was being very courteous to his friend Ron Heckman, who did not need to be embarrassed.
I know Ron pushed for Jerry, which in hindsight, probably hurt him.
Nice planted question anon 5:10, that isn't entirely true. Bernie's answers leaves out some details that frankly are quite unfair to Mr. Heckman. Sometimes people, even elected county officials say one thing and do another.
Much more to that story. The true part is Mr. Heckman did in fact congratulate Jerry and has a great deal of respect of him.
Had a few people been more honest, I doubt Ron would have even put up his name.
Anyone who is a "Democrat" today can not be a true "Sportsman" as would be defined by Jerry S. Your party stands against everything Jerry supports and for that matter all "Sportsmen" support. The only political party that wants to control guns, install more animal rights, supports PETA, supports any anti 2nd amendment group is a person aligned with the "Democratic Party".
Jerry seyfried is an Endowment Member of the NRA (the highest seat you can hold in the NRA), A veteran, and a moderate democrat. I am sure he votes Republican on gun issues and is more of a Republican than a Democrat. C'mon Jerry, the only thing missing on your resume is the "R" after your name. We would be proud to have you in the Republican Party.
Jerry doesn't belong to the Chamber of Commerce so he will stay a Democrat. You brainwashed assholes.
I attended a "Huge" sportsmen's dinner in February and was urprised to find that Jerry Seyfried started the banquet almost ten years ago. The biggest surprise came when Jerry took the microphone and announced that next year the banquet will have raised one million dollars for sportsmen and kids using the outdoors. Why doesn't the press tell the people about a pro gun democrat that is a NRA member and raises over a million dollars in just ten years for our kids and the outdoors? I just wish he wouldn't have introduced some of the people he did (politicians). As a republican who always voted for Jerry I say, he's been very supportive on outdoor environmental issues and we miss him in government.
A true "sportsman" is a "true sportsman" first, and a political person second.
The NRA is nothing but a tool of the Republican Party anymore. It doesn't give a crap about my rights. I read their pamphlets where they endorsed urban Republicans who never voted on any gun issues and dumped Democrats who have supported gun rights.
Need to think for yourself. Turn off the radio and TV. Use the brain.
