Wolf's opponent is a rich garbageman who can't seem to get out of his own way. At the rate he's going, he should be arrested several times for assault before November. It is little wonder Wolf has agreed to only one debate. But this is all the more reason why he should limit himself from handing out taxpayer money at election time.
I was sent a Wolf news release yesterday announcing a $750,000 grant to Fountain Hill for a 40 by 75-foot addition to its existing public works building. This might very well be a good use of taxpayer money. The renovation will alleviate issues caused by numerous additions made to the original 100-year-old public works building. The completed $1.5 million project is expected to house borough street department vehicles, a salt shed and stone bins, an environmentally safe fueling station, locker, shower and break rooms for employees, and areas for storage of the borough’s equipment.
But the timing stinks.
This is just a legal bribe to the residents of Fountain Hill.
The news release includes gushing statements from State Rep. Jeanne McNeill and State Senator Lisa Boscola, both of whom are up for re-election as well. Though neither has a frickin' opponent, the Wolf news release has to make both of them look good.
I will give either Lisa or Jeanne $100 if either of them can prove to me that they've ever set foot in Fountain Hill's Public Works building before today.
If Tom Wolf really is interested in reform, and I tend to think he is only slightly more interested than his opponent, he should stop handing out any taxpayer candy during an election year. State Senators and State Reps Reps should be barred from their oh-so-informative mailers during the year of their re-election.

I could not agree more. Why can't the township I live in get a new public works building? We have to pay for our own. When will government quit taking my money and handing it out as they see fit?
And there was no politics involved with the disbursement of drug forfeiture monies?
no small town mayor bragged about getting druggies money to spend on the town?

Lets add polotical mailers to that. Ezpecially ones tbat contain "opinionate" taglines and titlez like "working for the taxpayers". If maikrrs exist, they shoukd be sent at the begijing of the yesr. State Reps should be required to read the local newspaper.

State representatives only have a term of two years, so you don't want any informative mailers going out every other year? I'm surprised you want to limit any communication between an elected official and their constituency. However, it would be interesting to determine how money on those mailers is spent throughout their term and report on elected officials who have a big uptick closer to elections.

I didn't mention him by name and probably should have. I did not do so because the race is over already, not because Wolf is so good, but he does not offend and Wagner is such a jerk. He has anger management issues.
I'll readily agree Wolf is a jerk, too, just less so.
I have spoken to Scott Wagner four times in the past two years. Well before his campaign got off the ground. Long before he was endorsed by the party, which frankly surprised me. Long before Jeff Bartos was on the ticket. Wolf seems to be content with the status quo, along with a left leaning philosophy. Wagner is definitely not. His drive, his work ethic, his success and especially his realization, acknowledgment of the issues which must be addressed and his desire to change the status quo all earn my support. To me, the difference is quite stark. There are things we do not agree on, but, unfortunately, there is no "perfect" candidate. There shouldn't be, for anyone, ...ever. IMHO
The grants and money which flows to the municipalities also depends upon the effort and expertise of the municipality manager or equivalent. Some are not as adept and/or experienced as others. Our borough is fortunate to have a manager very good at applying for and getting grants. Knowing the process, availability, emphasis, timelines, amounts, procedures, lingo, etc.., is very complicated. We are quite blessed to have a manager who is very proficient at her job and knows how to "play the game" exceedingly well. She is an important and beneficial asset to Pen Argyl.
If you want to launch a completely unnecessary personal attack against a reader who identifies himself, don’t be a coward and say who you are. If you can’t do that, stop wasting our time.
WTF? You think awarding a state grant in an election year necessarily appears like a manipulation of the electorate? How many people do you think are going to cast their vote based on this decision? 2? maybe 3?
This is literally just an example of the state executive branch doing its job, and frankly it will probably cause Wolf to lose more votes elsewhere than it will cause him to gain in Fountain Hill.
