Impeachment Possible; Removal Unlikely

Yesterday was a bad day for Authoritarian Donald J. Trump. His former campaign manager and personal fixer are now both felons. Michael Cohen's plea directly implicates Trump. What this means is that, after the mid-terms, it is very possible that Trump will be impeached. But that means nothing unless two-thirds of the Senate agree to his removal after impeachment. So we're probably stuck with him.

You only wish. The President is the President of the people. We the people elected him because of all of this nonsense. He is being attacked by the establishment. We all know what they are trying to do to our leader.

You yourself showed how the press lies to protect the liberal socialist ruling class. We will not allow our great leader President Trump to be destroyed by the corrupt system. We stand with him.

As far as I can tell, this was mostly bullshit. Manafort's convictions had nothing to do with the campaign or Russian collusion. I've heard enough credible arguments to make me doubt that Cohen pled guilty to anything actually illegal. All this Russian stuff has been bullshit, and meanwhile China continues its slow, but steady progress to replace us as the world's #1 power.

MAGA!!! Trump 2020. You can keep crying and we will keep winning. President Trump is restoring American Greatness!!!

Initially, I thought this would be the end. But, unwise to think of a federal election violation as a high crime and misdemeanor since every presidential campaign has violated this law. The other impracticality will be parading a porn star before the judiciary committee. When she testifies an embarrassed country will find no corner to cover its ears. The pressure will be great on Dems to impeach. But, an impeachment for political reasons is dangerous and would certainly guarantee a payback of equal proportion.

It's only the beginning.RICO charges on the state level. Money laundering in his properties. The guy is a criminal. And the clown car filled with his followers is beginning to have extra seats. Tonight's relatively muted rah rah rally signals the beginning of the end.

If you want to start a real revolution O'Hare, any involuntarily attempt to remove President Trump by the Democrats before his normal term expiration will see a reaction by the American people such as you could never imagine.....

It is amazing, what President Trump has done in just a year and a half. Our economy is booming and looks like it will continue expanding at a high rate for some time. And this is with the entire establishment against him. Imagine what could be accomplished if Trump's own party were behind his MAGA agenda...or if the Democrats were a normal opposition party instead of the hate-filled, nihilistic entity of the left they have degraded into.

Ah...the Trump kool aid drinkers are out in full force already touting their "great leader". The last I heard using campaign funds to pay off personal stuff (in this case a porn star) is illegal. Cohen has admitted to doing just that under pressure from Trump to do so. THAT is a crime Trump can be charged with. Also, let's not forget about multiple counts of obstruction of justice that will be coming down against President Fullashit. One other thing, they say you can judge a person by the company they keep...what a bunch of criminal scum this guy loves to hang with and have run his show huh? You're right though Bernie, the Senate Repubs wont be able to find their balls.

When you've lost all hope of winning actual elections, go for the Venezuelan model. Just prosecute the opposition.

Any American can be found guilty of some federal, state or local crime at any point given a zealous investigation, indictment and prosecution by authorities. Particularly, this should be a wake up call for anyone involved in an election campaign.

Impeachment porn makes people lose their math skills.

If the democrats go down that road, they will cause a collapse of the stock market, a decline in most peoples 401K, a pension fund crisis, and possibly civil unrest. Of course they will first have to win control of the House. A whole lot of things can happen in the next 80 days.

"What this means is that, after the mid-terms, it is very possible that ..."

I get the left's obsession with impeachment porn, but where does this come from? Ds will likely gain about 15 house seats, and lose senate seats. It may be one of the worst out-of-power mid-term performances is modern electoral history. I know you worship Nate Silver. So did Hillary. That's why she was already measuring the White House for linoleum when she should have been in WI and MI. Let's review: nobody cares about Russia, the economy is booming, immigration is a super bonus issue for Rs. You need a brussh-up on math and civics. And stop reading Nate Silver. His sabr metrics stuff is cool to ponder. His political stuff is hilariously inaccurate.

This guy is the biggest fool to ever hold public office. He has disgraced our nation again and again. He talked about draining the swamp. We're still waiting. I'm not so sure if what he did was illegal with buying off prostitutes. Have they proven it was campaign money or his private funds? regardless, he is a poor excuse for an American President. He won't be removed from office. Let's hope he is replaced by someone more qualified in the next election.

Trump is the Teflon Don. The luckiest man on Earth. What other true moron could be elected to the presidency despite being a stumbling, bumbling fool with the education and social skills of an 8th grader? Even if impeached he won't be prosecuted for his crimes, because nobody (including Dems) wants a president put in jail. He'll be given a pardon by the next president. His law breaking in his private activities will continue and probably be more flagrant than it was previous to him being president. All those around him will fall either voluntarily or under protest of innocence, because they chose to follow Great Deceiver.

Pay no attention to that that beautiful young girl in Iowa who was always smiling in the photographs seen in our media. Being killed by an illegal alien is just a distraction from the business of overturning the 2016 presidential election.

It’s a good thing that President Trump don’t have a pet cat in the White House. Cats are sometimes called pussycats. Drop the cat portion and what do you have left?

Trump is Americas GOD and this hookergate was not in the oral office. Americas lotus is cleaning up his home town of subhumans that commit crimes against humanity. This is much like the past administration that commuted crimes against 3rd world countries.

None of this has to due with Russian collusion. This is political persecution by the Dims because they are sore losers and lost the election. You're wet dream Bernie is shooting blanks.

History shows that most voters aren't willing to give up a good economy and a record of foreign policy success over a crappy little matter such as the weasel dealings of a few of the president's lieutenants.

Voters never have in a good economy, and based on the Obama example, they are even willing to give a president who gives us a bad economy a pass on underling shenanigans also.

The Democrats can howl all they like, but it's not an issue. The Mollie Tibbetts murder-by-an-illegal story alone has far greater voter concern than this nonsense by Mueller. The Manafort conviction and the Cohen plea deal are not President Trump. They're not the Trump record. The Democrats want it to be so, and their efforts will fall flat.

In fact, it's likely it's only going to see falling poll numbers for its candidates as the more they talk about impeaching President Trump. This isn't the vaunted Russia collusion Robert Mueller is charged with finding, for one, any more than it's a matter of blame for President Trump. They should actually worrying about that. Why? Because nothing is going to happen.

Can it just stop already?

Anonymous said...

At worst this is a failure to report a campaign contribution, most likely not even that. the legal morons in media and elsewhere will eventually find that out. This would never be an impeachable offense. I hope the democrats run on and if they take the house they do try impeachment. They will assure trumps reelection in 2020, with a republican house and Senate. By then he will be free to have a real attorney general to prosecute all those conspirators, name 2 more supreme court justices and really be able to America Great Again.

Based upon these comments, granted a small and unscientific sample size, we live in very depressing times in a frightening
area. Simply stated, especially for the boobs above, the "President's" long-time personal attorney pleaded guilty to federal crimes and testified under oath that the "President" told him to commit said crimes. It is so basic and easy to follow that even Don Jr and Eric (our version of Uday and Qusay) can comprehend the import of yesterday's events. However the blind, sycophantic followers of the Great Leader will never recognize or acknowledge the truth....either from pure stupidity or just racist blood-lust (both?). All of you voted for, and still support, an incompetent, inexperienced, intellectually lazy, racist, sexist, nativistic, cruel, stupid, criminal, FUCKING GAME SHOW HOST with multiple bankruptcies to his "credit". What could go wrong....

I'm going to be perfectly frank here: I am a millennial male, just in the process of starting a family. I voted third party in 2016. I'm a civically engaged, college educated NPR listener. But seeing this witch hunt, and the astounding corruption of major media outlets and Silicon Valley play out over the past 2-3 years has turned me into a full blown MAGA man. I'm not talking about The Wall or any of the other memes, but rather facing up to the fact that establishment parties have been undermining the future of this country, and are scrambling to keep their narrative going. So Trump allegedly paid off a mistress? Guess what, we already assumed that and don't give a damn.

The winds are shifting folks, and our back is against the wall. Trump is just the start of it, if anything he was a pressure valve. If the establishment kicks him out of office before his term is up, things will get very dark.

Anonymous said...

As always, the fact that Trump was elected should tell you how messed up and broken this country is. The idea that Trump is the problem is delusional. His election is response to the insanity of the past few decades. People tried the "healing" route with electing Obama. It didn't work. If you get rid of Trump, the underlying fissures in this country's foundation remain. We can either return to our roots and shore things up, or keep chipping at that foundation with a sledgehammer and close our ears to the cracks and groans as it falls apart.

People talk bravely, those who have never experienced revolution or personal danger to themselves or family. We have lived in the most stable country in the world for many decades. When it falls apart, who is going to put it all back together again. We had stability because people trusted the rule of law, the objectivity and impartiality of the law. You can deny that it has all been replaced by political prosecutions and political exoneration. Just because you cannot accept that you are loosing the arguments. You are ready for upheaval, revolution and violence. You may very well get what you desire, we will see how it works out .

Whatever the 'great' Bernie O'Hare says! I just wish the guy had a license to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. His penchant for horseshit allegations is always entertaining, if nothing else, however.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Just stating the obvious. Trump has been directly implicated in a felony. It is not about Stormy Daniels, but directing someone to violate campaign finance laws. So he can be impeached. The point i’ve Been making us that impeachment is a useless exercise unless there is a good indication that 2/3 of the senate will vote to remove. Right now I don’t see that.

What I said is fairly innocuous and does not warrant the personal attacks or threats of violence from anonymous cowards.

Anonymous said...

I don't see any crime. Campaign expenses are payments for advertising, consultants, rallies, transportation, polling, and get out the vote efforts, of course. But has anyone ever reported payments to a mistress as campaign expenditure? Almost certainly not.

So sorry.

Bernie O'Hare said...

I deleted an attempt to deflect attention away from Trump's impeachable offense with the unfortunate a Mollie Tibbetts murder. That story should and is receiving ample coverage and is off topic here. Don not cheapen her life by attempting to use her as a defense to an impeachable offense. She has been violated enough.

10:23 - when you direct campaign funds to an attorney for use as hush money its an expenditure of campaign funds. There are multiple levels of dumbassery at play here, but even a pin head would know enough to not voluntarily report a payment to a porn actress for election purposes.

10:53 I will try to keep this simple for you. Any expenditure made by a candidate for public office is not an expenditure simply because it may incidentally benefit a campaign. It must be an expenditure whose only purpose is to benefit a campaign.

So if a candidate for office buys an American car, or gets his teeth whitened, these are things that can benefit his campaign, but are not campaign expenditures because they also have personal benefits.

Payments to President Trump's alleged mistresses to stay silent certainly benefited his campaign. But they also served the purpose of not embarrassing the Trump's family. There clearly was a dual use to the payments, therefore they were not "campaign expenditures" under the law.

If they were, then everything a candidate spent money on during the course of a campaign, whether of a personal nature or not, would have to be reported as a campaign expenditure. Does a candidate eat during a campaign? Well, if so that benefits his campaign and so must be an expenditure! Do you see how ridiculous this can become?
If these payments were not specific campaign expenditures then there is no violation of the law, plain and simple.

Now, Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to violating campaign expenditure laws. Although no plea deal was announced, it looks like Cohen has flipped and pleaded guilty to these counts to avoid even more charges. But just because Cohen claims he, and Trump, violated campaign finance laws. That is simply way to stop a prosecutor from pursuing other charges against Cohen, and not a determination that any actual law was actually broken.

Anonymous said...

What will probably save Trump here is his claim that Cohen was on a (normal) retainer with Trump to manage situations like this. Trump states NO CAMPAIGN FUNDS were used for making this payoff. Cohen acted alone and made the payment . . . then asked Trump to reimburse him. Unless the reimbursement check was from a Trump Campaign account, it's hard to see how this was any kind of campaign violation.

Either way, an attempt to impeach will surely be made but that actually happening is VERY unlikely. Such can easily be contested until such time as Trump decides not to run in 2020.

Anonymous said...

1127...What was the motive? To avoid bad press 2 weeks before election. That's like a lobbyist holding a fundraiser for a candidate and calling a birthday party.

Anonymous said...

This was the finalization of a non-disclosure agreement sought by Stormy Daniels 5 years earlier, before Trump was an announced candidate. Agreements like these to get rid of nuisance matters concerning wealthy persons happen all the time. This claim will not stand the test of qualifying as a campaign contribution.

Almost seems as if Mueller demanded such a claim in order to take it easier on Cohen whose real crimes, involving NY taxi shields, could have netted Cohen many more years.

Anonymous said...

Insane! So people wouldn’t have voted for Trump if they new he had sex with a porn star and a Playboy Playmate? I would have voted for him because of it. Lucky Bastard!

Anonymous said...

Ok so now Mueller got his guilty plea. Whoopee. Now, how about Diane Feinstein's Red Chinese connection? Or, Bill Clinton's old ChiCom buddies, Charlie Trie & John Huang with all their bags of campaign cash? Or, all of the millions of foreign contributions to the Clinton Foundation while Hillary was working in the White House? No, these Manafort convictions were for tax evasion & bank fraud....nothing Russian about it., and none of it occurred during the very few weeks that he spent on the Trump campaign.

Meanwhile, Trump is killing Muslims and deporting Nazis, cutting regulations & taxes, working trade deals, and eliminating the nightmare of Obama. MAGA!

Indeed, Trump is producing so much ACTION, it's very hard to figure why there are still those who can't see the positive results from all the action. The "winning" will continue!

Ultimately, Manafort was added to the Trump campaign for one reason, the possibility of a Brokered GOP Convention. Manfort had worked for several other previous GOP campaigns and had that particular experience. Every conviction was due to his own tax & bank fraud.

Anonymous said...

There should be no doubt in anyone's mind, the Mueller investigation is directed ONLY at one political party. It's almost silly given all the Russian collusion out there for all to see. This so called "win" by Mueller will do some public relations damage. At least to the eyes of those who wouldn't approve of anything remotely connected to Trump.

Canary_In_Coalmine said...

How can this be??? He only hires the best people!!!! I reject this all as fake news. Paul Manafort was not found guilty, there was no trial, this is entirely made up, truth is not truth. Manafort is currently in Central Park enjoying the feel of daisies betwixt his toes.

Since Trump fans are continuing with the refrain of "what about Hillary's e-mails" I will dabble in some whataboutism of my own.

What if Obama had been discovered to have paid off a porn star not to reveal an illicit affair carried on while his wife was pregnant? What if he told the American people he didn't know anything about the payoff, only to have a tape emerged showing he knew, followed by his lawyer admitting that he knew?

What if somebody in Obama's campaign quietly changed the party platform to be gentler on Russia?

What if Obama were recorded on tape talking about grabbing women by their genitals?

What if Obama's Attorney General appointed a special counsel, and then Obama regularly attacked his AG, and the special counsel?

What if Obama frequently hinted about the possibility of pardoning the criminal acts of people who might be in a position to reveal damaging information about him?

So, because Trump doesn't admit lying (and has made thousands of false statements) you believe him - only because he doesn't admit to anything? Trump who said he knew nothing about a payment, but his new lawyer, Rudy Giuliani reveals he did. Trump who said he knew nothing about the meeting with Russians, but his new lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, says he did. Whether any of it is criminal or not, the point is you support a liar.

At this point, there is no question the President of the United States paid off a porn star for silence before he was elected to office. The only real question is does it matter to you. But the more important question is if it doesn't than would it if the opposition did it. What I can't stand above all else is selective outrage. I can't stand malleable moral compasses.

We are a deeply divided nation and Trump is merely the public face of it. Now convinced that no matter what he says or does, 40 some percent will continue to support him.

The folks who fear demographic change are digging in, backs to the wall, ready to stand fearlessly in denial and for the long haul.

God help us.

The comments section on this post is really scary. I'm so tired of entrenched ideologues on the left and the right. Hopefully most the rest of America, the ones who don't post to blogs, are much more reasonable. This Democracy, actually all representative Democracy, is based on the supposition that debate, understanding, and compromise eventually works. It requires intellectual rigor, a commitment to the greater good of everyone, and a dedication to ideas rather than political parties. We used to have that. We don't anymore. So very sad.
