Nazareth Police Ass'n Awards $500 Scholarship to NAHS Grad

Sarah Gross, age 18, has been honored by the Nazareth Borough Police Ass'n (NBPA) with a $500 scholarship. She was the winner of this year's essay contest, focused on education. Officer Stephen Schleig, NBPA President, said this award was made possible by the generosity of the Nazareth community, his fellow officers and the Stockertown Rod and Gun Club.

Gross, who resides with her parents in Upper Nazareth, is a 2016 Honors Graduate of Nazareth Area High School, where she achieved a cumulative four year grade point average of over 3.5. Ranked 28th in a class of 391 students, Gross was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Government Association, the yearbook staff, Blue Eagle Ambassadors, Model United Nations, Chess Club, Spanish Club, and was on the Nazareth Dance Team.

She is now attending The Pennsylvania State University at University Park, PA as a Biology major at the Eberly College of Science. She plans to pursue a career in the medical field.

This is the second year in which the NBPA has awarded a $500 scholarship. Last year, it went to Nicole M. Boylan, another Nazareth Area High School grad.

A disgusting anonymous comment about Officer Schleig, obviously coming from Nazareth's power structure, has been deleted. You folks should be ashamed. There is no requirement that the winner be a Nazareth resident.
