John Morganelli - "What I'll Do as Attorney General"

In this brief video, John Morganelli explains why he should be the next Attorney Gen'l. For his part, Allegheny County DA Steve Zapalla is portraying himself in a TV spot running only in Philly as a champion of "Black Lives Matter." Montgomery County Comm'r Josh Shapiro touted an endorsement from Planned Parenthood.Senator Bob Casey, aka "Fillintheblank", has given his "strong" endorsement of Shpario.

Interestingly, Morganelli has denied working in concert with Zapalla to deny the nod to Shapiro. “I'm not going to blow $600,000 just to help somebody else, though it may end up that way,” he told Pittsburgh Tribune reporter Brad Bumstead.

In the final analysis, this may all be academic. Democrats allowed themselves to be played by Republicans concerning Kathleen Kane instead of forcefully demanding her resignation. Her trial is set to start in August and oh what a show that will be!  If that's delayed, Republicans who control the state house will work hard for her impeachment. Democrats will drown in a sea of corruption that includes state representatives, Mayors and the Attorney General. When they needed to call on her to step down, they didn't. The Republican nominee, most likely John Rafferty, will likely be the next Attorney General, no matter who Democrats choose.

I'd love to see Morganelli elected. There is no doubt in my mind that he'd restore morale and be an effective prosecutor.  But I fear this job is going to go to a politician.

(Blogger's Note: As a matter of full disclosure, I support John Morganelli and have contributed to his campaign.)

Examine the electoral numbers. Zappala, if he wins the nomination, is the next AG. He will do better in western PA than Democrats have done recently while winning by 250,000+ in Philadelphia and follow closely to trend in the suburbs but not as well as the top of the ticke--that's why western PA becomes more imporant. And he wont get wiped out in NEPA. While Morganelli is well-qualified, the best Democratic electoral bet is Zappala.

The Republican nominee...will likely be the next Attorney General..

I wouldn't be so sure. It depends on who their presidential candidate is. Trump at the top of the ticket means massive down ballot losses for the GOP and Cruz has little appeal in a state like PA. Rafferty is unknown and doesn't have much money.

I completely disagree. Contrary to what many foolish Democrats think, Trump will have quite a bit of appeal to Pa. Democrats and Independents.

I like John Morganelli's work record and I like him personally. He is a fine human being, and a true professional. His running for state AG has always made me nervous, however. Has anybody thought ahead to how things would go in Northampton County without Mr. Morganelli in the DA's office? Who would replace him?

I have heard a few names like Kelly Lewis and Mark Minotti, but the people have the final say.

Bernie, I think you missed 7:57's point and it is a good point. Trump does have some appeal to independents and Democrats. He is mobilizing a large number of voters to register Republican to vote in the primary for him but they will not vote down the Republican party line for the state seats.

So while Republican registration is increasing over Democrats in Pa, it doesn't equate to increased votes for local Republican candidates as would normally be the case. And, the staunch Democrats who do vote party line are being mobilized against trump at the same time.

I think Democrats have their heads in the sand, as usual.

i agree with Bernie here, Democrats are our own worst enemy fools go to the poles and split vote, look at the results for the at large county council races and tell me again that the top of the ticket has any bearing on anything? They even elected a Bircher to county office.

So keep telling yourself that Trump ticket is bad and watch the returns in utter shock as we get swept under the rug again.

Morganelli would do well in the general, were he to get that far. He won't. His tough stance on Wolf's death penalty moratorium and Kane's ridiculousness sealed his fate. His being a Catholic school parent alienated the PSEA. He's too far off the establishment reservation at a time when Democrats have coagulated on the extreme left.

I didn't know Morganelli was running. If it wasn't for this blog, I wouldn't know that. The press articles from John talk about all the other candidates, never himself. What is his platform. Didn't he throw Kane under the bus and piss off the statewide Dems? I am confused as to what the hell his agenda is.

Morganelli's personality is well suited as a prosecutor but that bulldog arrogance and conceit is why he loses statewide. Democrats should sweep PA meaning Toomey is finished too

6:31, The video above pretty much answers your question.

6:33, I hope you're right, but think you are ignoring some big warning signs.

I've seen the ad and note misuse of the word dependant for dependent. The word “dependent” is an adjective meaning to be controlled or supported by someone or something else (as in dependent on drugs or dependent upon the weather).

In British English, the word “dependant” is the noun used for a person who is dependent (as in the mother and her dependant). In American English, there is no such word; the spelling “dependent” is used for both meanings.

I see. So you spent your time hoping for a spelling error instead of actually listening to what Morganelli had to say. No wonder you had to ask about his platform. And I give you a failing grade in grammar as well as reading comprehension bc the word "dependant" is still correct when used as a noun, though it is less frequent these days. Do you have any real points to make?

I'm the NH county DA? Forget it John. Low profile and backwater locale will doom your candidacy. Always running and never winning. Be content with what and where you are. Stop this crazy quest for personal glory.

Oh I see. We don't need any person in office who does not come from the big city, even if he is eminently qualified. Makes lots of sense.

It's always about the headlines with John. Getting his face on tv and crime shows. He will never get a state position because his small time outlook does not sell. You wasted your money throwing it at him once again. Bashing people does not sell either. Progress has come to the county courts despite him not because of him. The jail is loaded with his accomplishments. Sad testimony indeed.
