McNeill's St. Patty Day Fundraiser to Fight Heroin and Opioid Addiction

Dan McNeill, State Representative from the 133rd District, is running for re-election against Republican Dave Molony. So having a fundraiser is to be expected, and he is. But instead of raising money for Miked Fleck or Fed Ed or even himself, he has pledged to send whatever he gets to combat heroin and opiod addiction.

“This epidemic is tearing families apart throughout the Lehigh Valley, and I’d rather see the money we raise go to fighting this problem than to pay for another campaign mailer,” said McNeill. “I’m tired of hearing about another young life lost to heroin, and the money will be better spent on educating or treating these young men and women from this often deadly addiction.” McNeill states that he is researching where to donate the money.

His St. Paddy Daty Fundraiser, is actually scheduled for the day after. It will be at 6:00 p.m. this Friday, March 18, at the American Club Pavilion in Coplay. (300 Cherry St).

McNeill hosted a standing-room only Town Hall Meeting at Whitehall High School on February 24, and is planning on another at The American Club Pavilion on Wednesday, March 30. When i get more details, I'll let you know. “I want to keep the conversation going, to try to reach as many parents and young adults as we can. If we can keep just one young adult from traveling down the path to addiction, or help them get into recovery, then all of this will be worth it,” concluded McNeill.

You mean an O'Neil against a Mahoney. A Bit of the Irish for sure.

Is the fundraiser serving alcohol?

How about passing a budget or maybe having the courage to stand up for taxpayers and voting to override the hideous vetoes?

Of course there will be alcohol. The green beer will be flowing. Ironic to encourage addiction to alcohol at an event fighting addiction to drugs.

If there's a little weed available, I'm in there like swimwear.

This guy is having a fundraiser for an organization he's still researching? I get a kick out of these old timers who are suddenly on the opioid bandwagon. Never do they offer real solutions - just throw money at an unknown organization that provides unknown services. How about confronting the real problem - illegal street trade? And no, not locking up users or dealers. Put the dealers out of business.

And you're right, they'll all have a drink. Last year, 88,000 people died from alcohol related deaths. In 2014, 24,000 people died from heroin and opioids. What is the REAL problem in America? All this is doing is making it more difficult for people in chronic pain to get the meds they need.

I will probably attend and have no intention of drinking. I agree alcohol is a dangerous drug, more so than marijuana. But I see nothing hypocritical in people drinking at that event if they do so responsibly.

Just redd entire comments section and 9:13 and 9:22am are trying to make a joke out of the life threatening chemical warfare that Americans as a whole are subjected too in there daily lifes in all innercity's were campaign donations are made to the right designing people than there is the grant grab get to give back for said party favor consessionair comPETitors¿

Of course, only LEGAL drugs can be used responsibly, right O'Hare? To say otherwise is hypocritical. Also, to say otherwise usually implies the person has absolutely no experience with the drugs they are legislating.

Quit poking for a fight. Go smoke some weed and chill.
