So two rabbis, a fireman and a politician are sitting in the bucket of a Bethlehem fire truck. This is not the start of a joke. It was the scene last night at Payrow Plaza.
Lehigh Valley Chabad Rabbi Yaakov Halperin, Lehigh University Rabbi Zalman Greenberg, a firefighter and Mayor Bob Donchez' Chief of Staff Bill Karras all climbed into the bucket of a firetruck so they could light three candles atop a 12' high menorah strategically placed next to City Hall.
It's Hanukkah, also known as the "Festival of Lights."
Rabbi Halperin explained it is much more than the miracle of a temple lamp that shined brightly for eight nights though it only had enough oil for one. It is, he explained, a "message of light" in the "darkest moments of our lives." It is a reminder of the "Godly soul" in each of us.
