Protest Planned Over Eichenwald Reform Delay

Robert Trotner is an attorney, Internet radio host and good government activist who was advocating campaign finance reform long before the feds visited Allentown. Upset by the news that City Council intends to delay a Jeanette Eichenwald bill to provide for more oversight over Allentown contracts, he has scheduled a protest outside City Hall on Wednesday, between 5 and 6 pm, ending just before a city council committee is scheduled to meet. "They had agreed to consider Bill 39 to stop the Pawlowski administration from continuing to hand out illegal crony contracts tonight but are now reneging. Council needs to be accountable as the People's Bulwark against Pawlowski corruption."

Thank you so much for this publicity of our Let's Build the New Allentown protest and press conference. What has happened in Allentown is a crime - well, to be accurate, many crimes - and city council is seemingly content to be part of the status quo while they monitor public reaction. Meanwhile Allentown becomes a laughingstock. And the media, except for you, seem to be somewhat complicit.

One cirrection. I am no longer an attorney.

This thought occurs. Any new legislation now, DURING a related and ongoing investigation could be seen by those close to the issue as an admission of poor performances, even guilt. In other words, why admit to a problem now if the entire investigation goes nowhere?

Just wait this out, first. The clouds might pass over.

Ask the question why is the Mayor of Bethlehem so strong on honesty and transparently . Whe J G on council wants to know what other cities have ethics rules. ? Hope the FBI has a good lie detector for use in town !

If Allentown city council would resend the term limits , to 2 terms . That was was a charter change by council . Would this be a first step in correcting the problem . Or is this the reason the city is in this mess now , how much blame does council have for having changed the rules and buy into this long term dealings to make this administration so corrupt . At what cost to the citizens or tax payers , who can give a report on the savings ?

Council must go!

The entire administration needs to be purged from the top down.

City Council isn't implicated in any crimes. Why should passing pay to play legislation be an admission of guilt by them?

I say the ball is in their court. What they do and say now should be disposition of their fitness of reelection.

Robert,

I think Council would fear being seen as 'asleep at the wheel,' and now closing the barn door after the cows ran away.

Better late than never.

Hi Fred, I think I went to grade school with you. I agree but I think it behooves them to take responsibility for any errors of omission because if they don't they are compounding their blame because they are allowing the administration to keep on its corrupt path. If there were any doubt that decisive action against the administration should have been taken in the past (and I confess I saw problems but not to the degree that Bernie foresaw ), there can be no doubt now
that council has to bell the cat now. There is no time or excuse for delay.

And some ex ministers

I confess I was dead wrong.

Yes, you did, Bobby! (think it was Nitschmann)

Anyway, I think all the 'players' in Allentown are shell-shocked like never before. People are holding their breath hoping all this just goes away. It won't!

Mr. Trotner deserves another chance.
Mr. Jennings has run out of chances.

Anonymous said...

But Alan Jennings cares, really, no kidding.

To all that care ! come to the meeting early to talk to the public at the rally for transparency .
Then sit in on the meeting . And then and only then will you see the real issue ,
lot of question and no answers ! Rumor has that the city has a new finance director (again ) ?
Why do they all leave ? Could it be micro management from the Mayor ?

The cities managing director drives them away.
Not all gay people are warm and fuzzy, contrary to popular opinion, and Fran ain't.

Agreed. And thanks for your support, Fred.

You raise a really good point. I agree now that they have shown themselves unfit fir reelection. But I still hope these individuals have the sense to pass Bill 39 in the very near future.
