Ferraro, Geissinger to Lead Northampton County Council

Peg Ferraro and Glenn Geissinger will lead NorCo Council in 2014
A veteran and rookie will lead Northampton County Council over the next year. In 5-4 votes that went strictly along party lines, Council chose Ferraro, a Republican, over Democrat Scott Parsons as their President during their reorganization meeting on January 6. They also elected Republican Glenn Geissinger as Vice President over Democrat Ken Kraft.

No other business was conducted.

Ferraro has served on County Council between 1990-1997, and again from 2001 until now. In November's election, she was the top vote-getter and even had the support of Democrat Ken Kraft. In contrast, Geissinger never ran for office before last year.

After her election as president, Ferraro addressed her Democratic colleagues. "I get it," she smiled. "Now the Republicans and Democrats must evaporate."

Ferraro, who has had her sights set on a Council presidency for several years, admitted that it was a "big occasion for me." She then thanked numerous of the people who helped her along the way, including her parents, her deceased husband, a neighbor, and deceased GOP Chair Charlie Roberts.

"He was my mentor," she conceded.

Unfortunately, all of the people Ferraro thanked were Republicans. This infuriated Democrat Ken Kraft, who posted this complaint at social media site Facebook.
"It's amazing to me how people forget that an at large seat is only won when BOTH parties vote for you. Shame on you and your lopsided speech. You owe half the voters in Northampton County an apology...

"Welcome to partisan politics, NorCo."
A retired teacher, Ferraro resides in Bushkill Township. Geissinger, who owns Alliance Media Group, lives in Plainfield Township.

Kraft's post sounds a bit like sour grapes from someone who was maneuvering so much to be President back in the Spring when a Dem majority was assumed. Which Republicans would he have named in his speech??

kraft has always been an immature crybaby. pouts like my 2 year old

The best thing about this is that old Scott Parsons aka Barney Rubble was so sure he was going to be president of county council, he was ordering a golden gavel. He thought with Dems elected he had the votes. He never did. There was someone else all along. It was just easier to go along with him. His irritating ego was easier to deal with that way.

He now plans to run for sate senate. Does this guy realize that if any Republican other than Ron Angle runs in District four, he is toast. The guy is amusing. he is nicer than Angle but big egos in little bodies must be a slate belt deal.

He and Kraft were the Kings that never were.

It was the active tea party that mad eth difference in this election. I hope these guys remember that. Not impressed with the cold shoulder to Hayden and Ferraro already talking about spending more money.

They are there to stop the bleeding and save money. Not to cozy up to the spendthrift Stoffa gang and the Dem's on council.

We need to cut costs and not raise taxes, period!!!

The tea party was a nonfactor. The two Rs you see above were the Rs they hates. I can pull out some of the comments they posted.

That's true Bernie, they hated the two of them, T-party had zero success except for the on leone Crazyy Bercher

Matt Benol was the Chair of the Tea Party, Hayden Phillips is a regular at their meetings, and Glenn Geissinger is an occasional attendee. Looks like the majority of the Rs elected would be considered Tea Party members.

Geisinnger was a member. He never failed to remind the tea party of that. Don't let a new mancrush get in the way of the facts O'Hare.

Is Geissinger going to be one of your new sources now that the Stoffa hacks are being tossed?

Hayden Phillips is the only active member of the tea party.

It is true that Benol was its chair and even ran against Charlie Dent, but Benol is unlike most of the tea party members in that he actually listens to other people and tries to build consensus. He did that in the debate. His views are probably to the right of most Rs, but he listens and adjusts.

I don't know what Glenn has told the tea party. He is a main Street R. That is the person I saw at the debate and who answered my questionnaire.

Don't distort these people into something they are not or your legitimate points will fail. Try to tell the truth.

Council is off to a rough start. Don't think it could have been avoided. There are sour grapes galore among them. Peg needs to stop kidding herself. There is no place on this earth where everyone gets along. They may be respectful to each other but when it comes to this level of politics I don't see them being friends. I've heard a couple of the D's say they don't like R's. So be it. There is a line In the sand and this president has deepened it dramatically. It has trickled down to all levels. Peg needs to watch her back and with her admission to how she gets it, she really doesn't. She sees the surface but the the depth of others real feelings. When you are in these trenches feelings run deep. The people on here who just take shots and make the hateful remarks have no clue. And they will never put themselves out there to get a clue. Probably because many of them know they would lose. And did Peg really have to wait 15 years to thank people. She is too long winded and no one wants to sit through that. Hope she is over it.

12:32. I would not have named anybody because I would not have thought it was proper to make a speech. A normal reaction is to thank the members for their votes and move on to the next item on the agenda.

Election night is the night to make your speech to your supporters and the proper time to thank them.

anon 6:34 is todays standard republican. He wins the prize. He somehow got to blaming Barak Obama for a vote in Northampton County. He cites the evil Democrats for never cooperating.

Based on the actions of Brown and Pegs speech, the Democrats have a lot to learn about angry, hateful partisan politics form the new-age Republicans.

These guys are teabaggers, pure and simple. They will suck up to Bernie to make themselvess look "cool" but they really are hard-core baggers.

They hate the Dem's and give like service to cooperation.

If they raise taxes they will show they campaigned in the primary falsely. Hell, even Peg bought a teaparty sweatshirtand she has been sucking the public teat forever.

You are one of the extremists who give Dems a bad name, just as the same things happen to Rs. You can't just tell the truth. You have to lie about people, which is why you don't ID yourself. I have known Mat benol for years, not just from this race. He is as I describe him. Same for Peg. Same for Seth. Seth's girlfriend is an extremist like you, but he is not.

I have not known Glenn as long, but I will judge him based on what I see, not some anonymous asshole who comments in the middle of the night.

Considering the fact that I've never had a private conversation with him, I think your comment says more about the suspicious hateful bunch in your party than it does about me. But it is nice to be despised by everyone.
