Why Driver Licenses For Undocumented Immigrants Is a Bad Idea

Last year, tax-happy Sal Panto got his rubber stamps on Easton City Council to go along with a resolution calling for drivers' licenses to undocumented immigrants. he never bothered to consult with law enforcement,  Had he bothered to call, Northampton County DA John Morganelli would have warned Panto that his proposal is "misguided and dangerous," and would make Easton a magnet for foreign criminals.

So what happens in states that allow undocumented immigrants to seek driver licenses?

Fraud, according to a study by the Federation of Immigration Reform.

Vermont - illegal aliens in new York were paying $2,000 to have someone take the test.

New Mexico - as much as 75% of the applications are bogus. Criminal charges were brought against a group from New York in 2011. They ran  ads in New York, limited to Chinatown newspapers, offering New Mexico driver license. Chinese immigrants from New York paid $1,500 for New Mexico licenses.

Tennessee - had to repeal a law that granted license to undocumented aliens because of excess fraudulent residence documents.

California - 64% of 46,200 undocumented immigrants failed when they took the test.

Terrible idea. Typical Panto nonsense. This is the guy you wanted to run the county? No thinks.

Panto's tried to make immigration and gun control laws. The dope can't balance his books without raising taxes and the shootings and stabbing continue in his city.. From an intellectual standpoint, people who realize their limitations perform much better in their positions. Sal's not too sharp and should stay within his capabilities. He shouldn't be in charge of anything. He should probably start blogging, instead.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is owed millionsin vehicle related fines and no one in the front office in Harrisburg wants to crack down on even the out of state people that fraudulently register their vehicles here in Pa. I would go through this like a wind storm and secure their vehicles for resale returning funds to the state. They would be 'driving' a wheelbarrow picking up crap in dog parks and streets in orange jumpers..Speaking of fraud ,remember last year I told you about and big property that got free state funded oil -read Express today .

Plus, it is a bad idea because they are in the country ILLEGALLY.

If the rule of law matters with respect illegal gambling at clubs, it sure as hell should matter with respect to illegal aliens.

"Undocumented" is PC nonsense made up by the femmebots at the AP and NYT. You know why they are not "documented"? Because they have broken the law.

"ou know why they are not "documented"? Because they have broken the law. "

Not necessarily. The children of undocumented immigrants are undocumented, and unless being biorn is illegal, they have broken no laws. Nor do I consider someone who overstays a visit illegal, at least not in the criminal sense.

I don't consider gambling in social clubs illegal, at least not in the criminal sense.

The law tells me I am wrong.

Yep. No doubt about it. Faux news-bagger-pj boy-pussy troll is up and at it.

Anchor babies, children born on U.S. soil have nothing to fear. Kids who came with, that's on their law-breaking parents. At least some of the Saudi trash what took down the towers overstayed their visas.

and the foreign child of an undocumented worker? What do we do? Brand him? You're better than that.

Actually, my views on this topic are fairly moderate. I favor amnesty and a path to citizenship for most. I do not favor giving driver licenses to the undocumented.

For the most part, efforts such as this are nothing more than mining for voters.

We DO already have a path for citizenship. Thousands are already following the guidelines, waiting in line.

Should the procedure be made easier and quicker? That's always a good idea, but only AFTER those in the present line are accommodated.

9:12 - I was referring to your source which is clearly biased.

Fred - Our ancestors had the benefit of Ellis Island. They boarded a ship and just came. There was no "line" or waiting period. Where is Ellis Island for Mexico? Or it it different because they aren't European?

Bernie O'Hare said...

9:31, one source is biased. The other is a law review article.

Thank god our heroic and noble President Obama cares about oppressed peoples.

Glad I voted for him twice.

In both 2008 and 2012!

Incidentally, we are all biased. Pretending to be neutral is dishonest. This is my objection to mainstream journalism. Sometimes, there is only one side.

The foreign born child goes home with undocumented parent(s), as I said. That is on the parent and we should not assume the responsibility for the parents' decision to break the law.

Current immigration law may be bad law in your opinion. There are many laws equally bad, in my own, but I can't go breaking them. I can speak out against them and ask my "representatives" to fix/change/repeal. If I (a tax-paying citizen) ignore the law, like those clubs, you can bet there will be consequences even if I can find a bunch of people sympathetic to my cause.

Rule of Law should be situational?

Our nation has grown over the years, many things are done differently. Back then, we didn't have Social Security, nor the same state and federal taxation environment. It was pretty much work, or go hungry. Jobs were available EVERYWHERE to build this nation, but even then, some were sent back.

The Ellis Island for Mexico today is the entirety of the Southwest. Conditions for those who 'wait' are quite good, actually. Much better than where they came
from.

Please nip the racism hint in the bud. It doesn't work with me.

Bernie,

Have been fascinated by the use of undocumented as opposed to illegal. With that use in another area illegal drug dealers become undocumented pharmacists.
Illegals take jobs under the table avoiding taxes but still take advantage of the freebies supplied by the government. Just because they are here does not give them the right to stay. I have no problem with immigration, just do it legally. There is no reason to have to push 1 for English. No other country gives a language option on the phone. Even Quebec Canada where French is more prevalent than English.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Pharmacists who practice without s law are violating state and federal criminal laws. They would be criminals. A person who stays after his visa has expired has violated no criminal law. He is illegal, but not a criminal. So I prefer to call him undocumented to remove the perception he is a criminal.

How about the ones that come without visiting first?

Bernie a "teabagger"? Wow. The "teabagger" obsessed asshole should really scratch the itch and hit the nearest bathhouse for release. Be proud and come out. Your mom and dad likely know already. The girls you've disappointed certainly do. You strike me as the left equivalent of the birth certificate obsessed loons of the right. Although they aren't focused on homoerotic sexual activities involving scrotums.

Go to a venue illegally like Saudi Arabia -THEY HANG THEIR body's from cable lines at the malls between excavation equipment. Their heads are in a bag danging under their carcasses.

Bernie is no where near a tea bag!!He is an American, we and he live on this soil. His politics differ greatly from mine, but he probably does not want to be over run by anyone that wants to just-- run US over. He reports issues here . If you don't like him read the blog from the present County Executive. That's right Mr. Brown doesn't tell you till it's too late. Get It?

Bernie,

Did a little research and those that over stay visas are criminals by breaking the law. Remember, very few of the "undocumented" had visas in the first place. Again, I have no problem with immigration. Just do it legally and learn English. Not such a big deal.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Bill, my understanding is that overstaying is a violation, but not criminal. I prefer not to use that word though I will agree that what they are doing is illegal. Too many equate the word illegal with criminal. My views on this topic are fairly moderate, but I'm with you on driver licenses. Morganelli's arguments make too much sense on that point.

Following the article, the first commenter tells the tale of being thrown in jail.

Either over-stayers are criminals or dishonest Abe's tactics are still the rage at ICE.

Bernie,

No offense but if illegal is not criminal, what is?

Bernie O'Hare said...

Illegal can be criminal but it does not have to be. All criminal acts are necessarily illegal. But not all illegal acts are criminal. For example, John Brown's proposed budget this year was considered illegal. But that does not make it or him criminal.

Anonymous said...

Peter J. Cochran, that's because Saudi Arabia is infested with religious conservatives, the bane of all humanity.

Anonymous said...

Was what you and Corriere did illegal and criminal or criminal but not illegal or illegal but not criminal? Please advise. Thanks.

Fred 9:47 - Yet you come up with excuses about an Ellis Island south. Build a central checkpoint and make it easy for people to come legally instead of this ridiculous cat and mouse game. Unless you have better reasons to keep them out.

Anonymous said...

Let's try this again.

ALL immigrants are welcome. We have a means to stay legally and permanently already on the books.

ALL are free to become citizens of the United States. But, not on THEIR terms. There are standards to meet and many SHOULD be rejected for not meeting those standards.

Look, if it makes you feel any better, I'd be OK with adopting many of the same immigration standards Mexico has in place.

I mean, most of us stop at traffic lights. But, why?

Fred Windish

Yes, let's try this again, Fred.

Please list the "means" one must take to emigrate here legally. Do you know?

Now list the "means" my ancestors had to take to come to Ellis Island. Do you know?

Everyone seems to stand behind these procedures that Mexicans must follow. Do you think its as easy as getting on a boat and then getting off a boat?
