We're No. 1 - Do You Tip Jersey Gas Attendant?

Pennsylvania now has the distinction of having the most expensive gas in the country, according to The Patriot News.

Most everyone I know from Bethlehem township east will cross the river into Jersey to fill their tanks. Prices there are $1.92, which is a lot lower than the $2.26 charged at Pa. pumps.

I still buy my gas in Pa because I always thought you should tip the gas attendant a dollar in Jersey to fill your tank. If i have to do that, i might as well buy here. But my friends are telling me I'm wrong.

If you buy gas in Jersey, do you tip the guy or gal who fills your tank?

Surely you jest.

I'd give a tip that they find a job where there aren't breathing gas fumes and dealing with dolts like me.

I'm from Jersey. I've never heard of tipping the gas station attendant.

I do but only if they are filling gas cans

I was taught you always tip someone that does a service for you. No different than if someone is cutting your hair or bringing you food or drinks.

In the summer, one of the attendants at the Wawa on Roseberry told me they weren't allowed to accept tips.

No. I'm capable of pumping my own gas, never agreed to having someone pump it for me, and would vote in a second for the nanny state to get out of my womb and away from my gas cap. I'm pro-choice.

I paid $1.81/gal. last week and crossed back into PA on the free bridge. It really pays to fill up in NJ.

They are not allowed to accept tips. Also just filled up last weekend in Pburg and it was 1.74. Def worth the dollar back home or taking the free bridge if not crowded. PA is becoming the same joke Northampton County has become. Hopefully Wolf and the jokers in Harrisburg can figure it out.

Sorry meat to put 1.79

Highest gas taxes in the nation! Thank you Tom Corbett and Mario Scavello! Tax and spend fiscally irresponsible Republicans.

Im not sure. The last time I got gas in Jersey, I was going to tip him but he walked away quickly so I guess he wasn't expecting anything.

No one has ever said No to a tip from me.

Tax the Fracking gas industry and use that money for our roads. Keep the gasoline taxes the same as your neighboring states. Do you know the toughest business in Pennsylvania to succeed in?????/Try owning a gas station near the Pa./ New Jersey Border. Drive from the upper part of the County all the way down into Bucks County (along #611) and see how many gas stations you come to?????? DUHHHHHH

8:41 was not me, Bernie.

Likely it was faux news-bagger-pj boy pussy troll.

Got it, Clem. You are being impersonated, possibly by Mezzacarappa or the Blog mentor. They both do it and blame me.

Nah,it's faux-news-bagger-pj boy pussy troll, I think.

I don't ever comment on that other stuff, other than maybe once a long time ago I said the constant thread-jacking was growing old. So, I don't think I've prodded them to do that.

My money stays on fnbpjbpt.

PA - Highest gas prices but 39th in highway performance and 48th in deficient bridges.

Just keep throwing money at the problem?

Our transportation funding system and priorities are completely broken. Re-evaluate assumptions, identify alternatives. REFORM the system.

Who uses cash anymore? If you pay with your credit card, there is no procedure to add a tip, like in a restaurant. How would you even do it?

Who came up with this stupid idea? Shut up - or the attendants will start to expect a tip.

The only people who give tips are the cheapskates who drive to NJ eager to save $2, and then hand the guy a $2 tip. That is Pennsylvanian thinking for you.

I've always wondered this. When I asked my college roommate from New Jersey a few years back he said no. Yet I always like I should tip them.

One of the friends I asked lived in Jersey until recently. She thought I was nutz, though she thinks that anyway.

Years ago when gas station owners/attendants pumped your gas in PA, did you ever tip them?

Bernie O'Hare said...

I'm so old that I don't remember. I imagine that as a young snot, I would not leave a tip.

I lived in Jersey for 20+ years and never saw anyone ever tip a gas station attendant, nor did I ever do it myself.

In fact, as a kid, I remember my dad racing out of the car and starting the pump himself because he didn't want the attendant touching his car. It sometimes led to a brief argument about the law but he usually got his way.

If I wanted the service I would tip, but since NJ gives me no choice by insisting someone else pump my gas, no tip.
Could never figure out the reasoning behind NJ not allowing the pumping of your own gas. Are NJ drivers considered so stupid by their elected officials, that they aren't allowed to do it themselves?

Scavello raised the gas tax to essentially give more heroin to a wasteful heroin addict. Mario Scavello hates taxpayers. It's a shame his opponent was so reprehensible and would have voted to raise them even higher, if given the opportunity.

New Jersey full serve- never leave a tip unless you want to look like a rube.

Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina full serve- customers will sometimes offer tips if the attendant also cleans the windows, and side mirrors. Usually the tips are very nominal.

Slightly off topic but when's the last time anyone had to use a token from the attendant to use the restroom? I had that happen to me in New Jersey last year. The restroom was spotless btw.

I used to tip generously until I learned from people in NJ that they don't tip. Now I might hand the attendant a dollar.
