Nazareth Eliminates Becahi in Stellar Tourney

Nazareth eliminated both the JV and varsity squads for Becahi in this weekend's Stellar Tournament at Cedar Park Beach. The tournament attracted high school teams from all over the area. Thousands of fans crammed onto the grass around the parking lot in a never-ending series of games on the asphalt courts. Parkland and a Cedar Crest team were the final two in contention as I write this post. Losing teams can look for revenge during next weekend's "A-town Throwdown", which is part of Lehigh Valley Sportsfest.

My grandson played in four games (three JV and one varsity) yesterday, so he should be asleep until next Tuesday.

How were the referees this year? Did you know that out of the local referee associations Easton is the most famous? There are a lot of local groups of referee associations for high school basketball out of Bethlehem, Allentown, Easton, Suburban area of Allentown, coal mine regions, and Philadelphia. Easton normally has a few guys and gals from the P'burg area, which have to associate with Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) if they want to work high school basketball in PA and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA)if they want to work high school basketball in NJ. Ask any of the referees or coaches, which is the most prominent local association, and most will say Easton. Easton has a lot of guys and gals working far in the PIAA tournaments, all divisions of the NCAA, (which has its own governing board for different divisions and conferences of scholastic athletics) a few semi-professional, and even one professional official that I know of. The officiating in Eastern PA is far and above any officiating throughout the entire country. And those guys and gals never seem to get a break. There are some lou-lou's, but overall all the local associations have great officials.

The officials I saw were all PIAA, and I have seen most of them before. The ones I saw were very good.
