All You Need to Know About Your Stimulus Check

(Blogger's Note: This comes directly from the IRS. If you have not included your direct deposit information, the IRS will enable you to register for direct deposit so you can avoid snail mail.)

Check IRS.gov for the latest information: No action needed by most people at this time

IR-2020-61, March 30, 2020
WASHINGTON — The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service today announced that distribution of economic impact payments will begin in the next three weeks and will be distributed automatically, with no action required for most people. However, some seniors and others who typically do not file returns will need to submit a simple tax return to receive the stimulus payment.

Who is eligible for the economic impact payment?

Tax filers with adjusted gross income up to $75,000 for individuals and up to $150,000 for married couples filing joint returns will receive the full payment. For filers with income above those amounts, the payment amount is reduced by $5 for each $100 above the $75,000/$150,000 thresholds. Single filers with income exceeding $99,000 and $198,000 for joint filers with no children are not eligible.
Eligible taxpayers who filed tax returns for either 2019 or 2018 will automatically receive an economic impact payment of up to $1,200 for individuals or $2,400 for married couples. Parents also receive $500 for each qualifying child.

How will the IRS know where to send my payment?

The vast majority of people do not need to take any action. The IRS will calculate and automatically send the economic impact payment to those eligible.
For people who have already filed their 2019 tax returns, the IRS will use this information to calculate the payment amount. For those who have not yet filed their return for 2019, the IRS will use information from their 2018 tax filing to calculate the payment. The economic impact payment will be deposited directly into the same banking account reflected on the return filed.

The IRS does not have my direct deposit information. What can I do?

In the coming weeks, Treasury plans to develop a web-based portal for individuals to provide their banking information to the IRS online, so that individuals can receive payments immediately as opposed to checks in the mail.

I am not typically required to file a tax return. Can I still receive my payment?

Yes. People who typically do not file a tax return will need to file a simple tax return to receive an economic impact payment. Low-income taxpayers, senior citizens, Social Security recipients, some veterans and individuals with disabilities who are otherwise not required to file a tax return will not owe tax.

How can I file the tax return needed to receive my economic impact payment?

IRS.gov/coronavirus will soon provide information instructing people in these groups on how to file a 2019 tax return with simple, but necessary, information including their filing status, number of dependents and direct deposit bank account information.

I have not filed my tax return for 2018 or 2019. Can I still receive an economic impact payment?

Yes. The IRS urges anyone with a tax filing obligation who has not yet filed a tax return for 2018 or 2019 to file as soon as they can to receive an economic impact payment. Taxpayers should include direct deposit banking information on the return.

I need to file a tax return. How long are the economic impact payments available?

For those concerned about visiting a tax professional or local community organization in person to get help with a tax return, these economic impact payments will be available throughout the rest of 2020.

Where can I get more information?

The IRS will post all key information on IRS.gov/coronavirus as soon as it becomes available.
The IRS has a reduced staff in many of its offices but remains committed to helping eligible individuals receive their payments expeditiously. Check for updated information on IRS.gov/coronavirus rather than calling IRS assistors who are helping process 2019 returns.

I didn't read anything regarding if you are anti-socialist programs how to decline the check. I'm sure in here there are plenty of posters (that I have read over the years) that will refuse the money based on their principles.

Refuse the principles of the country, keep the check, and fly the white flag, we're closed.

We're just another shit-hole county without toilet paper.

PA unemployment question: Is there any compensation for lost overtime?

Example would be, you regularly work overtime, 6 to 10 hours weekly, this makes the difference on making ends meet. After years of overtime, was told worker's compensation only covers the 40 hours.

This stimulus will not come close to making up for that lost overtime.

1:23,
Your employer may have told you that but when I filled out the form Unemployment asked how much my last pay period was. They base UC on how much you were making not a 40 hour week. Those who were only working part-time hours a week get UC based on their part-time hours. You've been paying unemployment based on how much you were making. Not just on 40 hours.

@12:31 & 12:52 - The country is terminal at this point. We need to accept that and start building for the next iteration. Take the check, use it to better shore up your position, or the position of your children, to pick up the pieces afterwards. You can buy some pretty nice equipment for $1,200.

You made me smirk when you mentioned buying equipment. I imagine many already on welfare and the government teat running to Walmart to buy a large screen TV or the latest iPhone. They can't be evicted or have their utilities shut-off. More government money that won't be used to pay bills with more to come.
Now it's a party!

Sorry, the max is 450 a week even if you make 100k a year with overtime. Thanks to President Reagan you will pay federal taxes on your unemployment benefits. There is no safety net in America. Good Luck.

I you dont want the money, just dont cash the check, This is supposed to be stimulus money, which means when things return to normal, go spend it in the local area.

I already see the whining of those who can get unemployment. Not enough? We are all supposed to save money for a rainy day. This is that rainy day. Everyone wants somebody to take care of them. Boo Hoo, suck it up and get responsible for yourself.

Ouch. $450/wk
That really isn't a whole lot of money. Looks like people will have to give up some luxuries they got used to. Premium cable packages, name brand groceries, etc.
On the bright side, it comes at a time when they won't have to worry about mortgage payments or evictions from their apartment.

7:43,

I get everyone is supposed to save for a rainy day, but there are actually hard working people who paid their bills, working multiple jobs to make ends meet, but never made enough to save for a rainy day.

That's not to say there will be whiners who could have saved, but spent the extra money on vacations, new cars, entertainment centers, etc.

My sympathy is for those who struggled, worked, and now are taking a hit.

How about if you failed to pay your taxes, and have an. iOU @IRS? Anon1:23 WC is calculated at 66 2/3 of average weekly pay based on a 52 week average,to a maximum of I think 762.00 a week tax free after a 7 day wait. Retro to day 1 ,after 7 days . If you have two jobs that comes to play also . Will I get a check if I’m still in Federal prison but filed last year?

The Monetarist school says take every dime your overseers are willing to give you back (that's right - back), until they discontinue extorting you to pay for incredible waste and inefficiency. I'm working and don't need the helicopter economics cash. I'll double tithe to my church and sock the rest away to pay for my coming tax increases. And they are surely coming. Our oldest generations have been engaged in the most prolific dine-and-dash in world history. Why start to care now? It's only another six trillion we'll never have to pay back.

I can't believe the postings of some of the people who contribute to this blog. Just for once can't you keep your negativism to yourself. Just for once, please do something positive with your life by reaching out to someone who is truly in need of your assistance. Get on the phone and call family and friends to see how their doing and offer to drop off some items they may be in need of.

Anon 7:52 there are lots of them . People have to have that Mersadies Beenzz and don’t fix their kids teeth. Could a should a had a 6months of take home pay resting in bank account away from your normal use bank. Three months of caned or dry food and water and ammo ,you get a second swipe at this because this strand of virus looks to be recitative or cyclical means good chance we get it back in a different form as this novis from SARS .

Good news! This chart showing deaths in Italy indicates only two genders are susceptible to CoViD-19. There are zero deaths in any other gender category.

Rest assured. The PC police are out in full force, even in this time of crisis.

Washington State provides a tally based on "Sex at Birth". (And I thought I started young!)

Watched a website from Film Your Hospital public request project. Citizen journalists sending in iPhone videos from around New York over the past few days. Several major hospitals depicted from past Sat/Sun.

No real emergency activity found anywhere, no lines, mostly empty lobbies, empty parking lots, idle parked ambulances.

My point in putting the story out was to show Fake News goes both ways and is everywhere we look. I still encourage everyone to follow the suggested guidelines. Better to be safe than sorry.
