Though I received no announcement from him, his candidacy is now listed on Facebook.
Michael served on Bethlehem City Council, but was defeated in 2015 after it was revealed that 29% of his support came from Martin Tower beneficiaries, where he supported a controversial rezoning ordinance. He subsequently moved out of Bethlehem and into Hanover Township. His law office is located inside the district, too.
He is married and has a cute little girl.
According to his webpage,
"I was born and raised right here in this district. This is where I attended school and played little league. And for nearly 40 years, I have called this district home. I want to be a judge for the people of this district. As judge, I promise I would serve with pride and dignity, be fair and impartial, and allow all coming before me to have their voice heard. I hope that you will support me on Tuesday, May 16th!"

Callahan is backing this guy, he lost city council as an incumbent
THIS ASS CLOWN DOESNT DESERVE TO BE IN ANY OFFICE..HE IS A TWO FACE LYING TWO FACED ASSHOLE....AND A CALLAHAN LEFT OVER..SCREWED ALOT OF PEOPLE IN BETHLEHEM....STAY AWY!!!!
11:25 AMEN
He did a good job on city council. He will get my vote.

What does being on City Council have to do with being a Magistrate?
I think Mike's temperament on Council would be an indication how he'd do as a judge. From what I saw,he was very even-tempered and never lashed out at anyone.
The larger question is why are there so many attorneys running for these MJD offices? Used to be that these offices were filled with a lot of retired cops and legal secretaries. Is it because the name change a few years ago from "District Justice" to "District Judge" made it sound more prestigious? Hard to make a living with a private law practice?
anon 4:36, check out the modern pay and benefits these MJD's now get. They are mini-judges with almost judges benefits. healthcare, pension, big-time pay and lawyers can still lawyer. Nice gig if you can get it.
With more lawyers than needed floating around they look for easy cash, at least the not so good ones. So they suck up solicitorships and these jobs for the $$$$.
Makes sense.
Actually, the reason lawyers run for these positions is because these position require application of the law. Mike is a good guy and a good attorney and will get my vote. BTW, I believe that the Martin Tower issue didn't come up until after he was already off Bethlehem council, or, at least after the election.
No, he was on Council throughout Martin Tower and that is probably why he lost his bid for re-election. But throughout that controversial an emotional matter, he kept his cool and never lashed out. So he clearly demonstrated a judicial temperament. He and Vivian would both be fine. It's like Coke and Pepsi. I understand a third lawyer who lives in Hanover but works in Philly is running. I'm not crazy about someone who does not work in this community wanting to be a judge here, but would need to know more. .
Mike has my vote. He is grounded in the area. Knows the people. Has served in an elected role and has the legal experience and wisdom. To my knowledge, he is not a former Prosecutor which in my book lends to a more even temperment when fair application of the law is involved.
Actually Recchiutti lost in the primary well before the Martin Tower matter became controversial.
Coke vs. Pepsi? One candidate has spent her entire career practicing law while the other guy was schmoozing with politicians for one term. One candidate has not only prosecuted cases, she has defended cases as well...which demonstrates more even temperament. Has anyone every seen Recchiutti at a courthouse? There is no Coke vs. Pepsi comparison here. The clear choice is Zumas, the glass of fine Chardonnay.
"Actually Recchiutti lost in the primary well before the Martin Tower matter became controversial.
That is true. But his reliance on special interests was well known and heavily criticized.
1:14, Vivian has more experience than Michael and I would vote for her i lived in that district. I know and like her. But I have seen Michael at the courthouse. He is experienced, too.
Yes his support for the Market St. zoning change doomed him and propelled Negron and Colon. Check the voting in Historic Bethlehem's districts
His Market St rezoning support cost him the election but he was still in office to vote for Martin Tower & Reynolds pushed for the vote before Rescuitti's term ended to assure his vote. He is a bought & paid for politician despite his even temperament. Is that what you want in a judge?
Still think she should use t5he picture Bernie used earlier. The struggling button picture will get her the most votes!
This tactic of anonymously attacking an opponent with vulgar comments is something I have seen in the past from people who oppose Recchiuti. That is a trait I do not like in him or in most of the Callahan bunch, to be honest. Tell us what you like about Recchiuti instead of making vulgar comments. I will associate those comments with him.
I made no vulgar comments but simply outlined the facts--assume your comment not directed at me?
remember him when I was a kid, little league. Then he moved to florida. maybe it was another mike recchiuti?
I played little league with him when I was kid, but I thought he moved to florida. Maybe there was another mike recchiutti in Bethlehem?
