Jennifer Sletvold, after an amazing campaign in which she managed to capture both Democratic and Republican nominations, managed to climb above three other excellent candidates. But despite her success at the polls, she should hold off on buying a black robe. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has yet to decide a challenge to the mandatory retirement that would require Judge Leonard Zito to step down. Since most of the justices are soon going to have to step down themselves, and don't want to, Jennifer might have to wait just a bit longer.
I've heard a rumor, incidentally, that Judge Zito is being offered the position of Court Administrator, one made available by Jim Onembo's "unexpected" retirement.

Sletvold ran a great(& positive) campaign. Her R opponent and his supporters ran a pretty nasty one. She won, he came in dead last.....is there a message there?
I heard Carroll put out a nasty robo call today or yesterday. Pretty pathetic if true.
Abe was my choice but Jenn did run an excellent campaign. Good for her!
Whoever managed her campaign should win a major award!
I heard a sletvold poll person telling a couple to vote for sletvold because she is a woman, married with children and Abe kassis and Tom Carroll are none of those things. She said it raises questions about their lifestyle choices and those kinds of people shouldn't be judges. I was very shocked by this statement but after talking to a few other people I was told it is not going to be good to be a man in her courtroom.
I do not believe this for a second.
I told voters she was the candidate with an immediate family. Having a great spouse and cute kids is something to be proud of and obviously voters think that too. Winning on both sides is a great accomplishment. Job well done Jen.
Tom coming in dead last on the Republican side speaks volumes. The group Tom aligned himself with hurt him badly. This was a huge republican rejection. I saw some results and there were actually polls where he got zero votes
6:27AM comment sounds totally fabricated. A comment like that would have hurt Jen ;not help her. Her campaign was more astute than that.
I agree.
What is Sletvold's party affiliation? This information is very difficult to come by and it's important. County judges go on to become higher ranking judges in a system that protects them from voters. It's important to figure out who they are and what their philosophy in the very beginning. The county, LWV and other sites are no help. It's the same with school board candidates. Despite the local nature of the races, party philosophies are very telling in judge and school board races; admittedly less so in others. She ran a good campaign. But now we have no choice in November. That's not good for anyone.
Sletvold is a Republican. This information was published several times. But her party affiliation should be irrelevant in a non-partisan race.
Disagree with the non-partisan stuff. Little judges become big judges. Their party affiliations give insight to their philosophy about government and law. If they're not vetted early on, the system protects them from being vetted later, when more us at stake. Her party registration was not readily available; nor were her opponents'. Did you ever mention it? I voted for her after speaking with her. My concern is a general one. I think philosophies are important and party affiliations can be helpful in determining what a candidate thinks.
I mentioned her party affiliation several times.

Jennifer is a perfect example of how hard work, honestly, and sincerity pay off. She worked her tail off, voters saw her for what she was, and she won. Anything negative at this point directed to her is nothing more than sour grapes. Whine.
*honesty
Once again, Dem's reject one of their own to vote for A Republican. They do it over and dover again. Particularly with women. Dem's can't help themselves when a woman bats her eyes and says vote for me.
She outworked everyone and that is why she won. But will the Supreme Court interfere with the voters' will?
It is a shame. If the Dem's had stuck with Abe, he would have won the Democratic nod and faced her in the Fall. Anther ungrateful judge that Dumb Dem's went all gaga over.
Zito the Court Administrator. Bernie, expose this for what it is. They need someone completely unaffliated with the court system to clean it up.
Come on now!
I disagree completely. Zito wold be excellent.
Jennifer seems like a nice person. She was not afraid to engage and clearly had a great working knowledge. I sat with her at a dinner and had a really good thought provoking conversation.
