Bill White: Sletvold Nomination A Bad Idea

Morning Call columnist Bill White has joined The Express Times and this blog in concluding that Bob Sletvold's nomination as Public Defender is a bad idea. I know what you're thinking. Since all three of us agree, we must be wrong. But even supporters if this goofy move are beginning to get exasperated.

Here's how Bill describes Peg Ferraro's supporting arguments:
County Council President Peg Ferraro, who told me Monday she's a yes vote, is decidedly unenthusiastic about it, both because of the court complications and because she feels fellow Republican Brown doesn't need a controversy this early in his administration.

She said, "Bob Sletvold is smart. He has personality. He can deal with situations. I can't say anything bad about Bob Sletvold. I just wish it had been any other department at all but the courts."
If this is the way Peg feels, then why the hell is she still supporting Sletvold? My party, right or wrong? Her reasoning is contrary to what she herself said when she was elected President. "Now the Republicans and Democrats must evaporate," were her words, just a few short days ago.

Peg Ferraro - "Me speak with forked tongue!"

Peg Ferraro runs the county now. Her votes have never made sense. Her students and their parents knew her as a bit ditzy. But you're not allowed to describe her as such in today's politics. She's not going to split the atom anytime soon. This is well known.

Because her party is more important to her than doing what is right for county citizens.

6:43 -

To be fair, I don't think anyone on this blog is splitting an atom any time soon either.

Her party is the Incumbent party. She has no guiding political philosophy or alignment to either party. Ask Ron Angle. Peg's in it for Peg. She's never earned a private sector dollar and has no grasp of reality. She's why teachers should not be elected.

The nomination will fail. Mr. Brown will have to rethink this and do the right thing instead of forcing the issue. Might does not make right in this case. Unfortunate decision so early in the game.

The writing is on the wall. To avoid publicly embarrassing the Sletvolds, the nomination should be withdrawn. If Brown does not do it, Bob should.

I don't see JB withdrawing the nomination..heels dug in. He will let council do the dirty work for him on this one unless Mr. S. pulls his own name. Very unfortunate..

Very. And very unnecessary.

Maybe the court should step up and do its own dirty work. Since they have not publically said this is a problem the man should be allowed to serve.

Your idiotic point has already been addressed several times. The court will not do that, but has done everything but do that.

You've lost this fight. Move on.

In a perfect world Bob Sletvold would be picked and then Mrs. Sletvold would not have to try any criminal cases as she never has in the past. This nomination is part of the party plan. If anyone in their right mind thinks that Brown, Ferraro, Geissinger, and Beanol are anything but patsies for the NCRC you are about to see a circus unfold before your eyes
