Isn't Gov't Ban on Employer-Mandated Vaccines Dreaded Regulation?

Republicans have historically opposed government regulation. As President, Donald Trump did have some success in rolling back protections designed to keep you safe. Thanks to him, manufacturers can spew more phosphoric acid. And who needs those pesky auto emissions standards?  And while we're at it, let's use radioactive gypsum waste for road construction. Hey, they might even reduce the need for streetlights. The attitude here is that government should refrain from interfering with business, even if it's killing us. But the very same Republicans who condemn this interference with business are perfectly willing to step in and prevent local businesses from imposing mask or vaccine mandates. They will roll back standards designed to keep business from killing us while simultaneously preventing businesses from policies designed to keep us alive. This is sheer hypocrisy.

If you subscribe to the laissez-faire philosophy embraced by conservatives, then you'd keep your hands off any business decision by an employer in the private sector to require masks or vaccines. You see, if you believe in freedom, that should include the freedom of local businesses to adopt policies designed to keep us alive, even if you feel they are ineffective.

NorCo's GOP Exec candidate, Steve Lynch, was at two rallies this week protesting a hospital that is requiring staff yo get vaccines. Before he got sent to Facebook jail, he railed at them and even told employees that they should sacrifice themselves and get fired.

He's all about freedom. Unless someone has a different view.

Businesses are regulated and harassed by government apparatchiks in myriad ways, but not letting them force vaccinations on employees would be the only one with which you have a problem?

This is poorly reasoned.

This administration is using government power to have private business engage in unconstitutional acts that it cannot, from censorship to mandates on employees. Just another indication of this fascist cooperation.

Private businesses can do whatever they want about masks and injections. A private citizen can opt not to be a customer of that business. There’s no problem with that. Just work someplace else or shop someplace else. Seems to me, if an individual chooses to be injected and wears a mask, that person should not be concerned about those who chose not to do so. He/she has nothing to worry about. Right?

Delta Airlines has told employees to either get vaccinated OR they can opt out, but would be subject to regular testing at their own cost AND will also have an extra $200 deducted per month to go towards their insurance plan. This is what all employers will eventually do, the owners aren't dummies.

You're right, of course, even though hypocrisy enjoys comfortable quarters in both parties and on both extremes. While I don't like that social media bans a sitting US president, while not banning the Taliban leader and his vicious hatred and death threats, that's their business.
Lynch and everyone should be careful to draw a distinction between being pro-business and pro-free enterprise (see: Milton Friedman). Democrats like high marginal tax rates with lots of loopholes to sell indulgences to businesses in exchange for campaign cash. Rs' base won't let them play that game and it's why they were soundly crushed in the last campaign money race. Businesses like Ds because they always prefer to know where to send the check. Lynch is tilting at caricatures, which isn't surprising given the nudnik he is. I'm writing in Bozo the Clown for better NorCo government. Our choices are stomach turning.

Off topic, but can you explain why nothing appears on the side bars of your blog on my computer the last three days? Only the post appears...

Bernie, my concern here is that this mandate would place legal liability on businesses IF there does turn out to be something wrong with the vaccines.

I don't think there is, and I got vaccinated myself. However, this issue was in front of Congress last year and they chose not to act.

If we want businesses to mandate the vaccine as a term of employment, then Congress needs to act and provide protection from liability. I think that's a fair trade.

I’m vaccinated. I wear a mask. I wasn’t thrilled to get the vaccine (especially since it was J&J) and masking is a pain, but I do it for the greater good. Perhaps I’m being duped, but so be it. With that said, mandates immediately create conflict and rebellion. Just as a teenager will rebel against his parent if he feels rules are arbitrary, the public is doing the same against the government. From the beginning, communication about the virus has been incredibly poor, with missteps and back-tracking. Common sense people realize that will happen with a novel virus, but people already suspicious of the government will seize on such to justify their stance.

Thanks for alerting me. I fixed the problem. Unfortunately, had to take down my waterfalls post for now.

If you don't thing that there may be some governmental influence with these companies looking to mandate vaccines, you would be mistaken. There are 3 primary issues the underlie behaviors:
money, power and sex. Government I am sure is waving some form of incentive of financial hardship just to push the agenda of the vaccines. Sorry, I fail to see the government officials at being altruistic and caring of the public.

Government has created and perpetuated a LEARNED HELPESSNESS on the citizens and it is destroying the countty.

Yeah mine does that too every so often. I never could figure out exactly why a post would do that. I just left everything as it was till whatever post was screwing it up scrolled off the landing screen. Weird stuff.

I was hoping to hear something about the sex. You are a disappointment.

It’s unfortunate but when you have a country of stupid people, mandates are necessary because the virus is not only protecting you, (You know, sorta like seatbelts do) but the people you come in contact with on an everyday basis, and they have to be protected. The scientific community overwhelmingly recommends that you take this vaccine, your opinion about the vaccine is NON-negotiable, it’s literally for the greater good. It is not about your rights, it’s about doing what’s right. Science doesn’t take a backseat to your ignorance about the vaccine when other lives can be affected.

How powerful is propaganda? People are taking a livestock dewormer to get rid of virus that we have an FDA approved vaccine for…

The vaccine ha been show to be ineffective in many cases, has numerous unpredicted side-effects, and has no long-term testing. Doubting such an unproven drug is the result of prudent skepticism, not propaganda.

You may recall Thalidomide.

It is an approved vaccine, not a drug. I have no issue with a person who informs himself yet remains hesitant, so long as that person is regularly tested and is masked. Unfortunately, many of those who hesitate have been feed a steady stream of lies.

The truth is that no one knows what will happen years down the road. But we do not have that luxury. We have to rely on what we know now. What we do know is that the benefits outweigh the risks considerably. We also know we are in the middle of a pandemic with a mutating virus and unless we get it under control, it is logical to conclude it eventually will mutate into something against which vaccines are ineffective and also, something far more deadly. That has been the history of many airborne viruses.

There is a vocal ("passionate" in his words) guy who spoke at the Easton council meeting about the shit storm he sees coming tomorrow, when students refuse to wear masks as school. He said "passionate" people could cause trouble. Well, he is talking about those like himself who fail to follow rules. He started be referencing state policies and complaining about directives from above. But this is a local policy, decided by the school district! You can't please them. He elected the people making this decision, locally. Sit down and STFU. You made your bed now lie in it.
