Judge John Morganelli Becomes an Independent

For decades, John Morganelli has been known as one of the Lehigh Valley's top Democrats. Though he supported many Democratic issues, he was conservative on others. Basically, he's never been in lock step with either party. Now that he's a judge, he's changed his party registration from Democrat to Independent. Here's how he explains it:

"Throughout my entire career as District Attorney, I have been independent of both major political parties . I have never walked in lock step with the rigid ideology of either party because my views sometimes align with one party on a particular issue and sometimes align with the other party on a different issue. Now that I am a Judge, I felt that it was the right time to officially become an Independent . Judges should judge matters solely on the law , with independence and free from any alliance to a particular political party or a political philosophy."

So far as I know, Morganelli is the sole NorCo judge who is unaffiliated with a major party.

I am basically an independent myself. The only thing that stops me from registering as such is that independents lose the ability to vote in primaries. This enables both parties to cater to their extremes.

Great Guy, glad he chose NORCO to live in and to serve the people for so many years.

A good man and Judges being politically independent has always made sense to me. We are blessed to have quite a few good County Judges.

The statewide party rejected him several times and he's always had a lot of R and I support, locally. Not sure why now is the time. It certainly is the end of his ambitions beyond NorCo, and he's probably unconcerned about re-election in 9 years. I can see him moving to the greener pastures of private practice before his term ends. Despite his statements to the contrary, he sounded painfully bored when I heard him on a radio interview a few weeks ago.

John would have made a great congressman.

Judges should never have a political party. They shouldn't have a party moniker or any affiliation of a party on the ballot. We should be electing judges on the pure stance of them upholding the law in fair but firm manners. It's a joke we allow them to "cross file" and continue down the road of "not being politically motivated". Give me a break.

Ok with me John. Just don’t send your assistant DA to crime scenes. That way they can’t excuses from representing the state.

He’s been at Dino for years… He should’ve been really honest and just gone full Republican.

Morganelli is very far from the Democratic socialist agenda. Good move on his part to disassociate from them. More democrats need to stand up to send the message to the DNC.

This just drives home the point that:

Decent People Don't Vote Democrat Anymore...

I wish they would open up the primaries for everyone to vote. The person most right or left ends up getting in and they are so partisan it has contributed to the great divide in the country.

I've always liked Morganelli, and am Glad he's changed his affiliation. I think being a Democrat these days is a real negative...Especially with the Anti Police garbage that's going on throughout the country.

A hard look at him brings questions. Was political corruption and cronyism condoned? Is his tip staff is a retired police officer who rose questionably? How were drunk, addicted, court determined not credible person(s) allowed to become and remain on the drug task force run by the district attorney? How many criminal law enforcement officials and criminal politicians in Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Nazareth and the Slate Belt received a wrist slap or outright “opinion” they were not guilty when the courts found them guilty? How many relatives and friends have obtained “crushy” government jobs, reduced or suppressed criminal investigations and/or prosecutions? Was there a going political contribution to get a job as an assistant ADA? $10,000 question. Don’t get angry with the post. Simply check public records for starters.

John Morganelli lost me when he ran for judge. I believe he will be forced to retire before his term expires, which leads me to believe this is just an ego boost for him. His now-deleted FB post condemning the police officers in the George Floyd incident showed either a lack of judgment or disregard of his position.

10:33 am, I wouldn’t have a clue how to research your post, but you have piqued my interest.
