$19.6 Million Bridge Bond Sails Through Council

By a 8-0 vote, with Bruce Gilbert absent, Executive John Stoffa's $19.6 million bridge bind sailed through Council last night. Even Lamont McClure, who previously suggested a more piecemeal approach to bridge repairs, supported it. The primary reason is the low debt service, thanks to a 3.1% interest rate on the bonds sold today.

In addition to funding the repair of 16 county-owned bridges over the next three years, the money will enable to County to buy desperately-needed generators at Gracedale and the courthouse.

In a pointed criticism of failures at the state level, Council President John Cusick said, "I'm just glad to see there's a governing body in Pennsylvania that can address transportation issues."

Great comment Cusick!

Can't wait till you cruise on out of your council seat.

If one really cared they would replace and/or repair all failing bridges, not just the ones with the lowest scores.

Bruce Gilbert is a disgrace. Is he paid?

Bruce Gilbert is a lame duck, but his constant absences are insulting.

824am beat me to the punch - it seems like Gilbert never shows up anymore?

Gilbert has missed numerous committee meetings, and his poor attendance is being properly called into question. If he does not want to do the job, he should resign and allow Council to appoint someone who will. The only person worse than him is McClure. It's pitiful.

The year is not even half over and he has missed at least 3 of 15 full meetings and who knows how many committee meetings.
