Though lower, KME's bid contained 38 deviations from bid specs. This included shortcuts like incandescent instead of LED lights and a roof that was 2' higher than requested. Rescue trucks, unlike other fire trucks, carry an array of special equipment that includes the Jaws of life, wooden cribbing, generators, winches, hi-lift jacks, cranes, cutting torches and circular saws.
Fire Chief Craig Wasem stated the new truck will replace a 20 year old rescue truck still in service by the Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Company.

Duplication of services is a sin. Christmas comes early for these guys but at what price to the wage earners? I love a parade..

Does every twsp.need one? I'm sure there is one close by that is waiting to respond. This..is an ego trip. I'm of the opinion that it is not needed and an extravagance. Regionalization of services would eliminate this waste of tax payer resources. Eye candy for the paramilitary crowd.
Every twps vol fire dept. has one Hectown, Bethlehm Twps, Nancy Run,Palmer Twps, Allen twps, east allen twps........all within a five mile radius whats one more???? We don't need to save taxpayer money the money tree is endless raise taxes so what...lets get another fire trucktoo.lets see we already have 23 of them in a five mile radius who the hell does thehinking around here???

That is not a legit argument and playing on peoples fears is a terrible way to do business with the peoples money. Justify the expense!

That is an emotional response not a justification for the purchase. Was PEMA consulted? How many similar vehicles are already in service? Facts and figures..please
How many of these departments "Must" have these trucks but have no one to staff it much of the time.Listen to the scanner. Many of these departments are going mutual aid on the first dispatch, even at night.In many of these townships, boroughs etc the elected officials know the is little coverage but keep quiet and say nothing That is just plain wrong..
10:51...These trucks are manned by volunteers. The respective Townships pay for the maintenance and upkeep of these vehicles. They also pay the workman's compensation insurance for the volunteers. How would you feel if your local tax dollars were being used outside of your own municipality because the other municipality was more interested in saving money than doing the right thing?
8:25PM...The need for volunteer fire fighters is greater now than it ever was. People are too selfish, or feel that someone else, other than themselves, will do the job. I suggest that rather than complain, you step up and lend a hand.
Why is it that the state has/had a program to give low-interest loans to volunteer fire companies for new equipment but won't give the same type loans to a town/city that has a paid FD.The money comes out of the same pot, our tax dollars. Why penalize taxpayers who pay taxes to support a paid FD.And how many sets of "jaws" are in Bethlehem Twsp where there are competing fire companies.
The state GIVES..volunteer fire companies monies every year from the state insurance company tax fund. Some outfits spend it..others invest it and bank roll it for future purchases. PEMA also supports those companies that show a true need for equipment, etc. but it is merit based and you got to prove you need it.
