ET: Say NO to Gracedale Inititative

The Express Times editorial board has weighed in and is recommending that readers vote NO on the Gracedale question. Here's why, in a nutshell.
"We believe voters should vote “no” for two reasons — to help balance a county budget headed toward “empty,” and to provide affordable care at Gracedale for the foreseeable future. The best way to accomplish this is to sell it to a firm that will:

* Pay the county $35 million.

* Qualify for a higher return on Medicare-Medicaid reimbursements.

* Run the facility more efficiently.

* Pay taxes to the county, Upper Nazareth Township and the Nazareth Area School District."

Thats funny..in the same paper there was an ad from AFSCME telling us to vote yes, yet no mention of that.

Will I see a 24-hour report for the cost of that ad on file in the voter registration office tomorrow? As well as the ads in other local papers?

Wow!! Big surprise on this one.

The Excess Times has been pitching the Angle/Stoffa line on Gracedale for a year.

Even with the facts in their possession they still are willing pro[agandists for this major con,

Gracedale will not net 35 million, 20 million if we are lucky. Etc, etc.

Owens and Flagg should continue to file as in-kind political contributors for John Stoffa. We all know they are in the bag for Stoffa. Now they are even willing to sell out the disabled and elderly sick for this guy.

Their shitty reputation has taken a new low.

The People of Northampton County.

PS: Hey Martin you still writing off your Saucon Valley Country Club membership on your taxes so regular folk can pick up the slack? Real class!

Just say NO - it's that simple.

Save the county budget, eliminate greedy union positions.

It's the right thing to do.

Dear 8:18 am...

Does being a moron ever bother you..many of the union folks at Gracedale want it to be sold so they can get their County pensions and continue to work for the new outfit...My question would be , "Can the county afforsd to take this hit to their pension plan?" Don't make this a union issue, because it's not..It's an issue of whtehr we are ready to sell out the care of our most vulnerable citizens to a private concern who could really give a crap about them..What will it cost to continue care..At most $1.00 a week for most taxpayers..Stop smoking and gambling and I'm sure you could come up with a dollar. If we can afford to pay for open space, we can afford to take care of the elderly. And yes Bernie, I know that AFSME and the Steelworkers are working with the coolition. However, that doesn't change the fact that many of their members are being greedy and want to double dip on the pensions..

Dear 12:36,

Talk about stupid...Please list all the jobs that will be saved if it's sold as opposed to those that will continue if it's not..Geez, where do you people come up with this stuff.

If it isn't sold, Gracedale will be reduced in size.

The Easton Express is a propaganda paper, make up your own mind if you can, and that should be a moral obligation to our senior citizens to keep Gracedale county owned. Taxes will not be raised 30%!? Do the right thing and vote YES to save Gracedale. I realize I am preaching to the wrong crowd but regardless, do the right thing.

If Stoffa proposes a 30, 20, 10% tax increase, it won't be because of Gracedale. That fact has already been proven. It will be because he wants and needs the taxes for something else.

People, try to think for yourselves.
