Why The Morning Call Should Think Twice Before The Next Layoff

Yeah, but the Express-Times can't spell or properly use the Queen's English. And they never have a blockbuster release of the Hess's strawberry pie recipe, as the Call has every few months.

i find the comment posted by anon 11:54 very offensive in it's implication (all zell and spector have in common is being jewish) and request that the blog administrator consider deleting it.

MM, I believe the comment deleted was just pointing out the irony of a Zell-controlled newspaper praising an anti-Semite. I don't believe that is an anti-Semitic comment, but will defer to your wishes on this topic.

bernie, did you know that homel is the birthname of randy michaels, tribute CEO, also jewish

MM,

I did not know that, but you apparently do. My impression is that the commenter, who knows what you know, was noting the irony of a paper controlled by Jews saying nice things about someone who is obviously anti-Semitic.

I do not see anything wrong with the statement I deleted. But it has been my experience that when a black person feels someone is discriminating against him, it's usually true. When a Jewish person feels that someone is going over the line, he's usually right. There have been times when I thought someone might be going over the line, and you have told me no.

So I will always defer to your wishes on this point, even if I do not see what you see. I do not want this blog to become a place for what you have previously told me are subtle smears that you recognize right away, and apologize that you were offended.

Let me also add a word of clarification. When i say the Morning Call is run by Jews, it is more accurate to say it is run by people who happen to be Jewish.

bernie, the comment mentioned arlen spector, in addition to zell and randy michaels, but in michael case they used his obscure jewish birth name. what does spector have to do with the chicago tribune or the morning call? the morning call is not run by jews. i can think of no high management in recent call history that was jewish. the call is owned by the chicago tribute, which is owned by a jew. let me point out that sam zell, although jewish, obviously does not know what is printed in the music blog of the morning call, so there really is no irony, just an opening for a jew basher. i doubt if zell was catholic, that the commentater would find articles critical of the pope ironic. lastly, in fairness to the mcall blog writer, although he may like the bands music, he probably did not research the band's leaders' writings about the holocaust and zionism.

"the morning call is not run by jews."

No, if anything, its own history is anti-Semitic, as you've once pointed out to me. I was referring to the parent organization, and clarified my comment to make it clear that the Tribune (not Tribute) is run by people who happen to be Jewish. There is no deep, dark Jewish conspiracy.

I do see some irony, and perhaps that is a flaw in my own thinking. If Zell were Catholic, I would not see the irony in articles critical of the Pope. I might see something ironic in articles lavishing praise on anti-Catholics.

bernie, you actually said that the morning call, not the tribune, is run by people who happen to be jewish. my point was that the owner of the tribune corporation is very removed from some little blog on the morning call website. because it's so removed, the fact that the owner of the tribune is jewish is only mentioned because he is JEWISH, in my opinion. finally, you have not addressed why spector was mentioned, again i contend because he also is jewish, but has nothing to do with the paper what so ever.

not to defend zell, but the paper could have been bought from times mirror. perhaps, maybe in hindsight, the workers should have formed a co-op and purchased it. perhaps they should still do that before it folds completely.

"bernie, you actually said that the morning call, not the tribune, is run by people who happen to be jewish."

Yes, I did, but as I have explained, I was referring to the parent organization. I agree it is unlikely anyone on top knew about the music blog. I still find it somewhat ironic, and like I said, that might be a flaw in my own thinking.

As far as the different names are concerned, I'll agree they were mentioned to establish that they are Jewish. That's how the irony is established.

I have deferred to your wishes, apologized and suggested my own thinking might be flawed. But in all honesty, all I saw was irony. Had I seen what you saw, your request would be unnecessary. There's not much more I can say.

Wow, sucks to be Jodi today. That's the sort of egg on your face that a reporter doesn't want...especially given that none of that information was difficult to obtain.

I cannot think of a more vicious slur against the semitic peoples than to accuse them of running the Morning Call.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Oh shit! I think I'm in worse trouble than Jodi.

The irony is that Zell, Homel and GERRY Spector are not only Jewish, but are the quintessential caricatures, the kind of bogeyman the musical anit-semites set up as the foundation for their hate. And, yet, the group has no problem with the good publicity provided by a publication controlled by them.

I've seen enough of MM's whining here and elsewhere, though, that I should have known that card was gonna get played.

And BTW,that shit about "the workers should have formed a co-op and purchased it. perhaps they should still do that before it folds completely" is so far of base that you know nothing about that deal or any other business.

Anonymous said...

that "he", not "you" know nothing about that deal.

Bernie O'Hare said...

If you are the person whose comment I deleted, would you please explain your motivation to MM?

I have a feeling I'll be hearing about this again, and this time I see you condemning anti-Semitism.

You are correct, I am the OP, and my recemt post is the clarification for he who wanted to make the first something it was not.

Who gives a shit!

Obviously, troll, those of us who have had the discussion give a shit.

Now, stop your interruptions, go back to your porn or ebay or whatever it is you do.

Anon 1:35, going to lose your job on the paper. That is life when you produce and inferior product. But by all means blame someone else.

michael molovinsky said...

anon 12:22 and bernie, i do regret requesting that the first comment be deleted, not because my opinion changed, but the subsequent dialogue speaks for itself. when you refer to "quintessential caricatures" you are saying you're not anti-Semitic, but you know a 'typical jew" when you see one. as far as what i know about business compared to 12:22, it's hard to compare anyone to an anonymous expert.

MM,

The original comment is gone. I never saved a copy.
