Ramirez, a Bethlehem resident, was a U.S. Army Reservist between 1981 and 1987. A twenty-year veteran of the NYC police department, Ramirez has been a Deputy Sheriff since 2007. He was recommended by a search committee that included Human Services Director Ross Marcus, two veterans and Council representation.
Ramirez, whose salary is $45,132, thanked Stoffa for the "opportunity to continue the fine work of the former Director of Veterans Affairs."
Although the County has 40,000 veterans, there are only three employees in this Department, including Ramirez. One of these is part-time.

Kudos are in order for Jane Volkert, the secretary in the VA office. She has been in place at least since Ray Green's term in office and has always done a stellar job. In the absence of a VA officer she has handled the office single handily and has done a fantastic job.
1:09 would use a post about veterans to take a shot at Ross Marcus. Some people are very hateful.

I believe Jane is the longest serving employee in Northampton County.
