[I]n the recent past, Mercer, Salem and Cumberland counties have sold their nursing homes while Burlington County is in the process. Middlesex County "sold" its nursing home to a newly-created improvement authority, but has bought the facility back.Sussex County is in the process of selling its facility, called The Homestead, which was first opened in 1955. Opponents of the sale are circulating petitions and have set up a Facebook page.
Updated 11:45 AM: In New York, only 16 of 57 counties outside of the Big Apple still own their nursing homes, and half of those are considering a sale. In Washington County, where the sale of what was once its poor home is being considered, the Controller points to declining Medicaid reimbursements.

Why don't you move to one of those counties in NJ or NY. Then you wouldn't be burdoned by the cost of NorCo operating Gracedale. I see this as a win-win. For you as well as us.
"burdoned"
It's official. NorCo is one of the dumbest counties around. This is not news, however.
So 50% of NJ counties still have nursing homes. Some "only". You keep carrying Stoffa's old water for him but the issue is settled. Nothing now but you and your bagger friends bitching and moaning. But keep pissing in the wind, your pointless point of view and the treabagger comments are entertaining.
We'll have the oldest jail in the state of PA and the only county run nursing home in the Western Hemisphere. We rock.
That poorly constructed referendum is beginning to stink. Downsize it to barely comply. Limit the damage. Taxpayers and old folks deserve better. Public sector unions killed Gracedale. It maybe alive for a few more years, but it's on life support and this should be it's hospice period. No more money for "saving" it beyond the legal requirement. Enough already.
it wont be 7 milllion a year but 10 or 12
Our ship has sailed. We could have sold this white elephant for $35 million last year. With the asbestos hysteria, reduced Medicaid reimbursements, and other counties dumping their nursing homes like junk bonds we would be lucky to get $35 for it now. Thanks Gracedale Goons for your legacy of lifelong debt for Norco taxpayers.
The teabaggers love a good story, even if it is bullshit. Why do you think they love Fox "news".
This story has nothing to do with the tea party. It has everything to do with a financial drain on many counties. Two separate news accounts, one from Jersey and the other from New York, chronicle the problem. And you will ridiculously claim Stoffa is behind that too.
The sick and elderly are a "financial drain" on the county but the "drug addicts" and "deadbeat dads" deserve a nice new rehab lounge because it is the"right thing to do".
Good to know who you and the rest of the Stoffa crowd are concerned about.
But places like Gracedale cut down on recidivism, proof, how many poor old people return to Gracedale once they leave?
anon 12:49 has a point. Gracedale is and will continue to be more effective in cutting the recidivism rate of the elderly than the drug addict lounge will ever cut the recidivism rate of the adicts.
Drug addicts don't quit because a judge and a social worker tell them to, silly rabbits. That Stoffa/Atiyah tower will become an expensive white elephant dedicated to Abe's pocketbook and social engineering.
It is very sad what Stoffa has done to Gracedale. He is sitting pretty with his multiple public pensions and healthcare plans. He doesn't give a rats behind about the poor elderly of the county. Is it any wonder he is so universally despised.
He is despised only in your own little mind.
No Bernie you are wrong he is dispised by many even by the one's that worked under him and one's that still work under him.
