Pawlowski: 40,900 Reasons to Like the NIZ

In a 78-page report, Allentown Mayor Edwin Pawlowski reports raking in a whopping $238,265 last year, when he wasn't running for anything. Though The Morning Call has a good story, I still picked up a copy late yesterday, and find I have even more to tell you.

1) Pawlowski has 40,900 reasons to want that NIZ Board confirmed tonight. He received at least $40,900 from NIZ board members and beneficiaries.

Butz family (NIZ beneficiaries) - $7,150.
J.B. Reilly (NIZ Overlord) - $10,000.
Joe Topper (NIZ beneficiary) - $10,000.
Mark Jaindl (NIZ beneficiary) - $2,000.
Jenn Mann (NIZ board) - $100
Seymour Traub (NIZ board) $200
Nelson Diaz (NIZ board) $450
Joseph Nespoli (NIZ beneficiary) (Sacred Heart) $500
Bill Grube $3,500
Comcast (will manage arena) - $1,000

2) Unions, obviously looking for construction jobs in the NIZ, kicked in another $39,320.

3) In an off-election year, political consultant Michael Fleck was paid $18,234.24.

Bernie,Your mention of Easton City Councilman M Fleck getting 18,234.24 from Pawlowski. For what. Could you post. Making big bucks in Allenown. In 2011 got paid by Pawlowski,Unions and Allentown City Controller. Did Pawlwski line him up with anyone else.

Pay to play. Why would anyone donate money to a sinking ship city politico if there wasn't something in it for him or her?

Bernie Your'e the best! Don't get to read this stuff and you're the first Web source checked out each morning. You're doing an outstanding public service by keeping us informed. Bet some downtowners wish you'd move to
Miami but we love ya right here.

If a run for Lt. Gov. is in the future, your guy can promise a chicken in every pot and an arena on every corner.

I can just see the Pawlwoskis and the Brownes laughing it up, proposing toasts as Topper and Reilly et al wine and dine them in their arena luxury boxes. I'm actually ashamed to say that I am a constituent to both these self-serving career politicians. The whole thing is so sordid and dirty. Thanks for the continued coverage of the arena scandals.

I personally know of an instance when the king took a $500.00 campaign donation from an assault on a retard to go away. This perpatrator is in the NIZ area and I have not seen his name anywhere in all the reports.

Well, look at what the city and the county let pawlowski steal. Allentown, Lehigh County, and easton all get casino money that should be going to bethlehem and northampton County..however, our wonderful legislators put together a deal that gives the casino money out to just about everyone. No one in the city or the county were able to stop this ridiculous giveaway..Easton gets almost a half of million dollars a year that should have been the county's share or the city's share or both..How the hell did that happen? Where were our county and city leaders when this theft took place??????

I think you forgot to add in all the money that vendors of the arena gave. I bet its twice as much.

The casino money legilation has a mandatory local share. Allentown gets their share from the slots and table games. Easton only gets a share of the table games (not nearly as much as slots). It's called regionalism and when this valley finally gets to understand that we spend millions of dollars every single yeat for municipalities, counties, school districts, etc, to do the same thing it is a waste of my tax dollars. There is no efficiency in local government in PA and that's the legislation Senator Browne should be working on. The Governor campaigned on that but.......oh well he is elected now.

Dear 1034,

The casino monies state wide were set up to go to the county and the municipality that had to deal with the impact..It was a special plan the local mayors and some legislators put together that put the money into easton, lehigh county, and allentown's coffers..Stop with the regionalism crap..We get nothing from coca cola park in Allentown. Nor do we get other monies from businesses in Allentown..The casino monies should have gone to Northampton county and bethlehem only until the local legislators came up with this mess we have now. Bethlehem deals with the crime impact and the county has to deal with prosecuting the criminals and the human services issues that arise from the casino..Not easton, allentown , or lehigh county!!! They should not have gotten one thin dime from this..

Mike Fleck is consultant to Reading's new mayor who will give Joe Eppiheimer a run for being Reading's worst mayor ever by the time he's done.

Since Allentown is gaining on Reading's title as Poverty Capital of the United States, I applaud the consistency of "message" he's promoting.

King Edwin is in trouble now with all of this NIZ shit. Proof that he has no shot at a statewide race. His pay to play efforts are running out as there are now too many people to make happy.

If Pawlowski does get into a general election battle statewide, he has an easy fall back: the NIZ was included in the budget passed by Senate Republicans and approved by a Republican Governor. Corbett would be wise not to bring that up b/c the easy response is "Tom, you thought it was a good idea when you signed the budget." If Corbett brings it up, that response opens up the line of attack that Corbett really doesn't know what he's doing when it comes to managing our state finances.

Not a stretch at all.

That said, roughly 50k of roughly 300k means that 16% of the campaign funds come from people with a direct financial interest in this project. As the ball continues to roll, they'll kick in 2 or 3 more times and bring a lot of other friends to the table. This project probably made it possible for Pawlowski to mount a $10 million primary election war chest. I don't like it, but I"m pointing it out.

Hey Bernie,

Rich over at Broad and Pennsylvania just posted up on the political donations that Justin Simmons received from many of the same players, albeit in smaller dollar amounts. Kinda funny/ironic that he also received money from Sen. Browne.

Rich goes on to ask the following question: "If Justin was so concerned why would he even take the money from these evil power brokers?" Maybe that is a question you should ask Simmons yourself.

Not saying pay to play is right ... just pointing out that this is how the system is designed ... And that Simmons may be a bit hypocritical. See the link below for the deets.

Pawlowski is a democratic pawn to get a spanking by Corbett. He will never raise 10 million.
