July 4 and Boilo

For the past few years, NorCo GOP Chair Lee Snover has invited me to her July 4 picnic. I always go. I consider myself a missionary spreading the light in the darkness of the Lehigh Valley's Trump Central. So far, I've gained no converts, but the food is always good and the company is better. There is only one person there who scares me, and you can see her on the left. Sally Pritchard. She is Lee's mom. The second she saw me yesterday, she pointed and declared "Fake News!"

Over the course of a few hours, we discussed Trump, North Korea, solar panels, nuclear fusion (not to be confused with nuclear fission), sludge (Ron Angle was there), term limits and boilo.

George Halcovage, Chairman of Schuylkill County's Board of Commissioners, was the one talking about boilo, the champagne of the coal regions. He once provided some to the Lithuanian ambassador to the United States. The ambassador was warned to drink it slowly and not too much.  He chugged 16 ounces to start.

The next day, Halcovage called the ambassador, who told him he remembered nothing that happened after he started drinking boilo. ... And then he asked for the recipe.

NorCo GOP Chair on NPR?

Lee Snover is Northampton County's GOP Chair. She's also a Trump delegate to the Republican convention. She'd be the last person I'd expect to hear on NPR, but she was star of the show today on Here and Now. Its FCC license will likely be revoked in the next 24 hours.

I was at Lee's house on Independence day, the token Democrat. She had promised the kids a piñata. I didn't mind getting nailed by the sticks too much, but when Ron Angle out his cigar out on me, that was too much.

I was also verbally trashed by Lee's mother Sally Pritchard, who made me want to go back to being a piñata.

After a few hours, I had to use the restroom. When I was finished I flushed, and the suction nearly sent me through the pipes to Nancy Run.

Republicans have heavy duty toilets, which I've always suspected.

Sanity Prevails in NorCo GOP: DeFranco Tops Kerr

Lee Snover with Craig DeFranco
Tea party extremist Bob Kerr, who resigned as Northampton County's GOP Chairman in April, failed to get his job back in a special election last night at the Chrin Community Center. By a 66-19 vote, Committee members picked Craig DeFranco as their new Chairman. Lee Snover was elected Vice Chair with no opposition.

In stark contrast to Kerr, who refused to let members speak at the last meeting, DeFranco pledged that he is "going to listen to everyone."

According to my unreliable blogging intern, Ron Angle,"it was a pitiful attempt at a coup that failed." He added that Kerr, Tony Simao and Tom Carroll were "dragged off to the jail in shackles."

Another Republican, who is a little less colorful but a lot more reliable, told me the meeting was actually "very cordial, very civil."

The election was moderated by Solicitor Brian Monahan, the attorney whom Kerr tried to fire.

Since DeFranco is a former cop, I will have to be nice to Republicans.

For awhile.
