"My wife doesn't want me to run," he confessed. But he later said, "I think I am inclined right now. One more term, I think. I'm not old. I have a lot of energy. I still want to work."
He said it's too early for him to leave. "I want to be more involved in community outreach. If I'm going to leave, I'm going to leave a legacy or a footprint for the next DA to understand what is needed right now, and to have an infrastructure to continue."
Baratta has devoted his entire career to the county in various roles - assistant county solicitor, First Assistant DA, President Judge and now, as District Attorney.
I will support him if he runs. After you read what he says about the various serious issues he's confronting, you will, too.

This is a perfect example of why these local yokel politicians don't require paid communications flacks. They have uncritical stenographers like you who work for a pat on the head. Who's a good boy? Who's a good boy?
ReplyDeleteSince you sat down with him for an “extensive” interview, did you ask him what his office’s conviction rate in jury trials is ? Hint: it’s one of the worst in the Commonwealth. The local Republicans are lining up a strong candidate.
ReplyDeleteI did, and will be discussing that. There is nothing wrong with his conviction rate.
DeleteIrrelevant. A Republican has no shot in Norco.
DeleteA Republican has no clear shot anywhere right now. You can thank your hero for that
Deletenot old he’s almost 80 time to bounce all the old heads
ReplyDeleteI like him. I can't speak to his conviction record or whatever, but on a personal level, he's a gentleman and humble. He holds the door for people and says hello to everyone. He does this in a real and warm way, not fake like some people who walk the halls.
ReplyDeleteyou mean like the lousy comedian we have as Executive?
DeleteHe's always been ineffective, no matter the role- his conviction rate is abysmal.
ReplyDeleteHes uninspiring- guy looks half asleep all the time.
ReplyDeleteI was not sure how it was going to work out but am very happy with how he is doing as a DA!
ReplyDeleteBernie lookin forward to your posts. Will you be taking a deep data driven dive like you do with Gracedale. Compare Baratta to his immediate predecessor the great Terry Houck. See how both men did with jury trials, bench trials, plea bargains. Compare their successes against the data compiled by the Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Association. Do research on turnover in the office during both men’s terms. What you’ll find is that objectively Terry Houck was a much better D.A.
ReplyDeleteTerry Houck was a much better DA. The fact that Steve Baratta even ran after being a Judge, tells you everything you need to know about him.
DeleteThanks to Tara’s monumental screw up - a 43% increase. We are back in the game.
ReplyDeleteHe was a lazy and permissive judge and now he’s a lazy and permissive DA.
ReplyDeleteBefore him, formal arraignments were months after the preliminary hearing. Now they’re like weeks away. That’s a huge improvement to keep cases moving.
ReplyDeleteThis remake is flat with no panache and no wise-cracking cockatoo,. Might be time to abandon ship on this guy.
ReplyDeleteHe's a bit of an egomaniac, but they all are I guess.
ReplyDeleteI love that guy.
ReplyDeleteHe has my vote! Baratta was the only DA who knew and saw what was happening in my life and he helped to finally get things moving through the proper channels.
ReplyDeleteanyone who thinks Terry Houck was a better DA must be smoking weed across the bridge in Phillipsburg. Terry had a back log of cases. Baratta has done a great job in reducing that back log. Baratta has my support if he decides to run again for DA.
