Today, at 10 am, Northampton County Exec Lamont McClure will unveil his proposed 2024 budget from the County Council meeting room on the third floor of the county courthouse. You can watch it in person or online.
Northampton County's spending plan last year was a half billion dollars. In his nearly six years as Executive, he has never proposed a tax hike. He actually reduced taxes once.
I will tell you more about the budget after listening to McClure's address online. I mistakenly thought his address was this time last week, and only realized my error after I was halfway to the courthouse on a bus. This time, I'll watch it on Youtube.
McClure's spending plan becomes official if County Council adopts it. It even becomes official if it is rejected. It does have the power to amend the budget, but is unable to interfere with the Executive's estimates of revenue. Thus, if they wish to fund something they want, they need to find some place to cut.

So, the Executive could project 1 billion in revenue, base his proposed spending off of that, and council is powerless to do anything about it? Who the hell came up with that? Proba ly some crooked Democrats.
The prediction is with all the legacy money he got, he will do his re-election tax cut this year or next. Hopefully council looks at all the overbudgeted line items where they hide the money.

That is part of the HRC, which was opposed by county Democrats. It makes complete sense. It prevents Council from creating nonexistent sources of revenue to spend money the county does not have. The Exec could project $1 billion, but if he does not have it and wants to spend $1 billion, he will need to borrow and then a tax raise will be necessary.
Are you kidding me? That was the biggest sh*t show I have ever seen.

Not on preserved farms. Only farms whose owners who sell sell into the program have their farms preserved, bonehead.
