Two candidates - Republican Nancy Aaroe and Democrat Brian Panella - are sparring over the judicial vacancy created by Steve Barratta's unceremonious mid-term resignation. They have cross-filed, and are seeking both the Democratic and Republican nominations.
It appears that Aaroe has no real plans at securing the Democratic nomination. She has sent out no mailers to Democrats, and appears to be focused solely on the Republican nod.
Panella, in contrast, is appealing to both sides. His mailers have gone equally to both parties.
Frankly, I think Aaroe is making the right move in the short term. We are in polarized times, and I am sure Republicans will embrace her no matter how many mailers are sent by Panella. But Panella's strategy might be better in the long term. His mailers raise his visibility and will undoubtedly help him in the general election.
