On Thursday, I told you Northampton County Council would consider $1.3 million in grants to small businesses negatively impacted by the pandemic. This would be in addition to $8.779 million already awarded to 673 businesses throughout the county. As expected, the measure passed 8-0 (Peg Ferraro was absent). If you have a small business in Northampton County, you can apply here. This is first come, first served. Do not delay.
On Friday, Executive Lamont McClure conducted a zoom meeting with Greater LV Chamber of Commerce Prez Tony Iannelli. He was joined by John Hayes, who chairs the Board. McClure asked them what we as citizens can do to help small business and the folks on those front lines.
I had previously suggested occasional tipping cashiers at grocery stores. You'd have to do that on the sly because a former Giant grocery clerk informed us that she could get fired for taking a tip.
Tony Iannelli and Hayes had their own ideas.
Buy local, was Tony's biggest suggestion. Hayes added that if you do go out to eat, give the server a hefty tip because they are suffering. Hayes also suggested dropping Amazon.
One of my readers suggested using grub hub for take out.

DO NOT use Grub Hub for take out. They take a cut from the restaurant. Order directly from the restaurant if you want to really benefit them.

We need the Democrats in our state government to go to the root of the problem and put a leash on Wolf and his minions with their pseudo-science directives. Democrats are so busy hating Trump they don't recognize that egotism and insanity can be found in their leaders. The damage done is incredible. The virus did not do this, the Chinese did not do this. I am going into restaurants and buying food and tipping as much as I can. I deal directly with restaurants on all take out. While these lower paid essential workers go to work, the big unions(big supporters of democrats) protect workers like the teachers. They have not lost one cent. If teachers really wanted to go to back to work they would tell their union to shove it. Those "essential" workers in our stores and restaurants and health care need schools open. So if you are a teacher, put pressure on school boards to keep schools open.
Support farmers markets and local farm stands. Your local farmers and producers are the way to keep access to food no matter what disaster happens, so take care of them.
