Pedro Martinez Advises Young Ballplayer

Three-time Cy Young winner Pedro Martinez, rehabbing with the IronPigs, pitched five innings before a packed house at Coca Cola Park on Friday night. You don't see someone like him every day.

My grandson, on his way to visit his aunt last week, bumped into Pedro at the airport. Of course, the two ballplayers recognized each other immediately, and they both posed for this picture.

Pedro spoke quite a bit to Dat, but Dat has absolutely no idea what Martinez said.

"He only speaks Dominican," he tells me.

All he got was, "Baseball been berry good to me."

Good stuff.

We'll see what happens to Pedro at the end of the day, if the signing was a waste of money for the Philadelphia Phillies, if Pedro claims a starting spot or if he goes out of the bullpen an inning or two when required.

In the meantime, Pedro Martinez IS a three-time Cy Young Award Winner and will, in all likelihood, end up in the HALL OF FAME.

So, that was an experience for Dat, or anybody else, kid or not!

Interesting Pedro Martinez at airpot.

Martinez was assigned from AAA Lehigh Valley IronPigs to AA Reading Phillies as of today, August 3, according to I.L. official website.

According to R-Phils official website, Martinez is scheduled to start for AA Reading opposite AA Trenton Thunder (NY Yankees) on Wednesday at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Call me crazy

(Why on Earth would I want MY WORLD-WIDE READERSHIP to come over here and see the wonderful things YOUR LOCAL READERSHIP tell me - like I am a racist or I need to physically build a school so I can learn to read?)

Nonetheless, I posted a notice with respect to your Pedro article, O'Hare.

LISA OLSON, the noted national sportswriter formerly with the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS and her website, FANHOUSE.COM have been generating lots of links for us the past few days for whatever reason (they are looking for Pedro stuff to munch on).

Very cool! But J.A. Happ must not be sent to the bullpen!

Think how great Pedro would be in key spots coming in from the 'pen!
