Rudy Giuliani: How Pennsylvania Goes, So Goes the Nation

In a sign of the importance the Lehigh Valley plays to Republicans in this year's Presidential contest, an energetic Rudy Giuliani dropped in on campaign volunteers and a raucous crowd of several hundred Dent and McCain supporters late Friday afternoon. He first encouraged volunteers working a phone bank buried inside the Westgate Mall, and then stepped outside to greet his fans. After a brief speech, he hurled himself into them, signing autographs and shaking hands.

From there, he even met the press (and one blogger).

"Sarah Palin scored a big victory last night," he boasted, portraying McCain and Palin as reformers who try to straighten problems out. "I'm also here for Charlie Dent. He's one of the most effective members of Congress. Sometimes, when he's your Congressman, you don't realize how important and effective he is. He's one of the hardest working people in Congress. He's done a very good job for this District. He had to cast a very tough vote over the past couple of days. I think he came through for us."

Giuliani predicts that if John McCain wins in Pennsylvania, "he'll be the next president of the United States. . . . If you can swing this state, you get the necessary electoral votes to win." He explained that swinging Pennsylvania would mean that some other close states, like Ohio, are swinging as well.

"I think we all realize this is a battleground state."

Giuliani called Obama one of the least qualified persons to run for president in the last hundred years. "He's never run a city, never run a state, never run a business, never run a military unit."

"At a time like this, you've got to with someone who's been tested by crisis, and John McCain has been tester by crisis over and over again."

"We also need someone who can work in a bi-partisan way. John McCain, probably more than any other senator, has worked more with the other party. In fact, he's worked so often with Democrats that he sometimes gets criticized. John is known for that. We need someone who can work on both sides of the aisle and bring us together."

"Barack Obama, you have to respect him for his beliefs, but he has been a very partisan Democrat."

Given an opportunity to ask a question myself, I did.

"You're known as America's mayor who cleaned the thugs out of New York City. But they all came to Allentown. How are we going to get rid of them?"

Laughing, he told me he'd give me some recommendations, and whispered "passenger rail" in my ear.

In a news release, the Bennett camp belittles America's Mayor. “It’s pretty telling that the biggest draw that Dent could get is a former Republican candidate that couldn’t even win one primary in all 50 states. The Lehigh Valley voters want more than just ‘a noun, a verb, and 9-11.’”

Oh yeah, it also repeats Michael Moore's claim that Giuliani's law firm is trying to cash in on our Wall Street meltdown.

You might think the Bennett train wreck could do more than snipe at Giuliani (who never impressed me, nor apparently, many others). But Bernie, minimizing the claim that the former NYC mayor and neo-facist's law firm is reaping favors from the Wall Street mess --- by labeling it a Mike Moore allegation --- is unfair. Moore's site, to which you link, only re-posts a New York Daily News newspaper story. The allegations are a bit more substantial than a Michael Moore "documentary."

George Washington didn't have a whole lot of experience in government either. He was a military man.

Actually, another media outlet makes the Michael Moore connection. But I think I should have noted the NY Daily News, I agree.

Ahhh Rudy the scumbag who uses a few thousand dead to promote himself.

The classless piece of crap who cheats on wives as often as I change socks.

(And yes he even had the balls to rip John Edwards for the same.)

Ahh Rudy the putz who cut corners Palin style that killed how many members of FDNY?

You know don't improve the radios its a un-needed expese. Lets be fiscaly conservative, and mentally challenged.

Rudy the putz who couldnt beat John Gotti until he unconstitionally banned his lawer (Cutler).

Rudy the jackass who put NYC's emergency reasponse HQ next to the twin towers in reasponse to the first attack in 1993. (And never thought 'gee what if the buildings blow up, wouldn't that put the team at risk for disaster?')

If I run into Rudy I'll let him know. Go back to NYC and cry over your fucking Yankees. Your not welcome here in PA!

Rudy the putz who says who ever wins PA wins the Whitehouse.

Gore won 2000 and Kerry 2004.

Hey Rudy do some fact checks before you open your mouth!

Oh and Rudy the guy who spent very little time around ground Zero bu the little time he was there was all the pics and video we saw over and over from the ass kissing media aka MSM.

Oh and Rudy I'm no Obama fan. But let me ask since you mention people should lead a city, a company, and a military to be President.

How was former General US Grant as President? (Anser: SUCKED!)

How about former biz man Hooover? (A: SUCKED)

I guess Phil Mittman is very qualified to be President according to Media Darlings and total jokes like Palin and Rudy. Hey Rudy if being a Mayor is ore ecxperience than your guy McCain (never a military leader, never a biz leader, never a mayor) lacks those qualifications, why do you support him?

Oh thats right beacuse your less qualified to talk!

Bennett complains that Dent got an endorsement from Giuliani because he didn't win a primary.

Excuse me, but isn't Bennett the one who keeps losing elections? By my count, and correct me if I'm wrong, she's about to lose her third.

Her campaign's snark of Giuliani, who held NYC together in the aftermath of 9/11, is pretty low. I was shocked at her news release, to be honest.

RUDEEE!

a noun, a verb and 9/11. The problem is, it is true. Even Republican operatives realized if that was all he was selling it would not get him the nomination.
The nation went through a traumatic event, he happened to be Mayor. Frankly, I think any other Mayor of New York would have handeled it as well if not better. He didn't really do anything. What did people think another Mayor would do, run through the streets screaming.
His telling legacy is the firefighters and cleanup crews who got stiffed on compensation for all the site related illnesses. He took the standard Republican route on that one.

Wow.. and they wonder why they say news media is biased? you read Fox polls and u get Palin won the debates 82% in favor... you come to the Morning Call and you can see how Rudy G. wasn't responsible for cleaning up and restoring NYC when it was on the verge of bankruptcy, its schools were in shambles and it was in danger of becoming Washington DC for crime... (oh yeah, DC was the crime capitol of the US before Katrina turned New Orleans into that) it is truly ashame that the Newspaper has migrated from a place to get your facts from with an oppinion section, to a place that is entirely an oppinion section with maybe a few facts thrown in and distorted for good measure. anyone that can call Sam Bennett a viable responsible candidate after what her head of staff said ( on a blog mind you) and justify his sexually and racially biased comments and not put a large boot up his derrier as they kicked him to a curb is a great example of how far politics have dredged themselves into the sewers and exactly why americans are frustrated with both parties.. this past week was a fine example of that when the banking system is in crisis and all the heads of both parties did was nothing but grandstanding for tv time and took a 3 page document and turned it into a 400+ debacle and for that reader that complained of Rudy cheating on his wife more than he changes socks... Didnt we just have a president exactly like that who you all loved so dearly???
