When John McCain and Sarah Palin visit Lehigh University's Stabler Arena on Wednesday, they'll certainly be getting a warm welcome from the right. They'll be getting it from the left, too.Mike Morrill, Dear Leader at Keystone Progress, has been asking "progressives" everywhere to be there. He even has a theme for everyone.
BUSH = McCain, WE CAN'T AFFORD MORE OF THE SAME.
He wants people to make signs and banners using that theme. I sure hope the LV's one man protest machine, Bernie Berg, is there. Usually festooned in Pirates or Steelers gear, this ex-priest has made a career of demonstrating against Dent and Toomey. In fact, about 100 years ago, he ran for Congress himself, pulling down about 23 votes.
His theme? "Berg - the Lesser Evil."
I disagree with Bernie, but people like him make democracy fun.

I'd really like to know if the campaign required those seeking tickets to sign a commit to vote. If I recall correctly, when W came to town you could not get a ticket unless you signed a commit to vote.

The only thing I was asked to do was to give them my name and address. They know I'm a Dem and even joked about it. McCain will not win unless he gets plenty of Dem votes.

I sure love to ask McCain if he would commit that all new drilling in environmentally sensitive would be soley for US interest (defense or domestic). I'll betcha you would not even get response, or be called a liberal or unpatriotic for asking such a question
When they say drilling is to reduce dependence on forign oil, it really is about the money.
BTW, did you know that the largest US bio fuels plant was built in Erie. I was told by a reliable source that all the fuel produced is shipped overseas. Can you believe that?

I sure hope your reliable source is wrong. The one point being banged home by everyone is that we must reduce dependence on foreign oil. How can we do that if we are exporting our own fuel? I'm going to try and look into that.

This was a brownfields site of the former international paper. I am all for this. However, shipping the fuel to Europe just makes the slogan "drill baby drill" just that...a catchy slogan.
Probably the polls Clean Water Action does when they are "canvassing" doing organizing and fundraising.
They also get hired to do a GOTV by a campaign election weekend through day.

I found your link interesting. Both parties talk of "energy independence" but what do we do? Free market ships it over seas. Granted, the subject of the article was small scale. However, the same would likely happen if we "drill, baby, drill". Good intentions are one thing, but if there is no government intervention to look out for US citizens' interest vs corporate interests, don't expect much from the rhetoric.

It is also interesting that Oil companies currently have 68 million acres in federal land leases for oil drilling that they're not using. It is more costly to drill offshore. So the public is being fooled by "drill baby drill"
Not true.
You drill where there are proven reserves, and that is offshore. I haven't made up my own mind whether this can be done in an environmentally friendly way, but that's where the oil is.
