I have detailed interviews with both Congressman Charlie Dent and challenger Sam Bennett, spelling out their differences on the issues. One of these is trust. Dent has said, "Trust is an issue in any campaign. Public officials are expected to meet high ethical standards."
Bethlehemdem, before you ask that question of Dent, shouldn't you ask it of Bennett? She had been running attack ads for a couple of months before Dent did.
Banker, I did not see any attack ads from Bennett. She may have attacked him in the media and at her "press conferences", but I do not even remember seeing an ad from Bennett, so far. Are they TV ads? Mailers?
I wonder if former Bath Mayor Betty Fields is going to do any Dent ads from her jail cell.
It was nice to see that Dent stayed with the style that worked in his attack ads against Joe Driscoll. I still chuckle to myself thinking about Driscoll in that convertible driving up from the main line with that big head moving side to side, now that was an effective ad.
I include in "ads" things like the "Debate with Chicken Charlie the Dented" that she did w/ Joe Long, the press releases that have included outright lies that were not retracted, things like that.
This is a liberal interpretation of ads, but I do think it's appropriate from a political perspective.
The tough part about this for me is that I know Sam personally, and she's not like this. I believe her campaign is being driven by the DNC (i.e., bringing Kathryn Seck in from Washington to run the campaign, then have Ms. Seck quoted at a 10/1 ratio over Bennett) and that's a shame as I think she'll lose with this approach.
I remember the Joe Driscoll ad - it was sophomoric but also funny! Some are like that on both sides of the aisle.
Bennett ads are breaking today,so lets compare.By the way check out the expression of the little girl in the shopping cart when her mother takes away the box of cereal. As far as trust goes the charlie ad is just a spin.Awards are not given out for just a paint job or cutting grass. And the award is not a rake.I challenge you to interview any of the over 8 hundred people who have received the award over the years and find out how they view charlies slam. There are some pissed off rep and dem award recepients.A very risky move on charlies part. You can slam SAM all you want but the program is a good one.
POM is a joke. Sam Bennett is a joke. Wow. Eight hundred people are going to be upset who got a rake as compared to the 200,000 voters who are going to be pissed-off about her salary grab.
I saw Bennett's campaign ad today, in which she brags about not being paid from POM for seven years. If only she mentioned what happened when she did get paid...
Dent's ad, this one, appeared a few minutes later and did just that.

Ouch!
Sad, but true.
Are attack ads the only ads Dent can do?
No, and that is why he is so effective in a campaign. His pattern is go for the jugular and then, in the closing two weeks, be very positive.
I happen to agree that, in this election, trust is very much an issue.
That's an effective ad. Bennett has some explaining to do.

Attack ads work; especially when factually accurate, which is the case here.

You do the math.
This blog has become a centerpiece of right-wingnut bullshit but that was very funny.
I am probably more left-wing than you, but I call 'em the way I see 'em. Sam is way out of her league in this race.
